I am taking a different approach in the search for my Millers. I would like to eliminate all the German Millers and zero in on Millers from the British Isles. I believe that we can make an educated guess as to the origin of our ancestors by looking at the surnames of the people that married into the line. Based on that theory, I suspect my Millers are of Scottish origin. They were last seen roaming around the southern row of counties in western PA. They associated with McConnell, Stephens, Galloway, Dickey, Criswell, Wilson, Lemon, Spence, McClellland), Lewis, McHenry, Benton, Harney, Gordon, Townsley and Harrison. If you have any of these names and Millers in this area, I would like to hear from you. Dave Miller
Dave, First, while I can understand your wanting to narrow the search for your Miller line, please don't give up on the German Millers prematurely just because your Millers married into lines from the British Isles. I'm Swedish, Swiss, German, Dutch, French, English, Welsh, Scottish, and Irish. About 75 or 80 percent of my lines married Irish, so if I had gone only by the nationality of who they married, I'd have missed finding my Swedish, Swiss, German, Dutch, French, English and Welsh ancestors. The point I'm trying to make is that you cannot make reliable assumptions about the nationality of someone based on the nationality they married. Southern PA had various waves of immigration so you find a mixture of nationalities in most areas. Second, I'm looking for the family of Isabel/Isabella McHenry - she married John McCombs 25 Nov 1830 in Ohio Co WV but was supposed to have come from Pennsylvania. We assume from her marriage date that she was born c. 1810 (her husband was born in 1808). What can you tell me about your McHenry? Thanks, Laurie -----Original Message----- From: David G.
