    1. [MILLER-L] Greene Co. PA and Monongalia Co. WV - Quinter as first name
    2. I had an email from my aunt this morning, asking if I ever heard any stories about my great grandfather's middle name, Quinter. He was James Quinter KEENER. She seems to remember from childhood that he told her a story about this name. What I know from my database is that the given name Quinter appears 4 times, all in one family. The first person I have with the name is the brother of my great great grandmother, James Quinter MILLER. The following is my list: * James Quinter MILLER (1848-1881) son of Asa Miller (my great great great grandfather) * Clarence Quinter MILLER (1872-1924) grandson of Asa Miller and son of William Lewis Miller (who was another son of Asa Miller) * Mary Quinter MILLER (1881-?) granddaughter of Asa Miller and daughter of James Quinter Miller (above) * James Quinter KEENER (1885-1975) son of Amanda Catherine Miller (daughter of Asa Miller) So in my family, I find the first occurrence of the given name Quinter in 1848, when Asa MILLER and Mary JOHN named their son James Quinter Miller. I am looking for occurrences of this given name prior to 1848. Anyone have that given name in the MILLER or JOHN or KEENER families? How about any other Greene County, PA, or Monongalia County, WV, families? Anyone else have given names that are unusual that pop up for a few generations and then are gone? I've had a few occurrences of the middle name McClellan(d) showing up during the Civil War. I appreciate any help anyone can offer with the name Quinter. Kelly McEntee San Rafael, CA

    3. I wonder if your original Quinter was the fifth child? I think that Quinton was usually reserved for a name for the fifth. Karen Moore Kerr __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com

    3. Quinter is a "surname", as it does go back to 1790 census for Berks Co., Pa. Where did you hear that Quinton was used as a name for a fifth child? How odd. Ruth Sprowls
