---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- NC/SC deeds for MILLERs Posted by charles miller on Sun, 17 Dec 2000 Surname: MILLER, MEEK, NEELY, ALEXANDER, LEWIS If you are into deeds as a source of info for your research into MILLER families along the border of NC/SC these may interest you. If you wish to discuss the families herein further please contact me at bonedigr@concentric.net Be aware what may seem like Meck NC may have been Spartanburg SC [or other county SC] later in time as the boundaries between the two states emerged and changed in the late 1700's. Charles SP-DEEDS The following deeds from Mecklenburg, N.C., Old 96 District SC, Spartanburg and other documents enclosed all tie together to prove the relationships between our Miller families. The source document from which the deeds are taken precedes the narrative description at each entry. The Mills Atlas 1869 version taken from an 1825 inventory was the basis for the small map, enclosed, [[[note there is no map enclosed here, too big and too complicated for this novice with maps]]]which may be used to correlate the relative locations of our Millers. Be advised the map is not to scale but is an approximate reproduction of the original map. Not all tracts of land (for which deed descriptions are available and enclosed) are shown but the major tracts of interest are designated as Tract "A", Tract "B" etc. and can be correlated to the maps for approximate location. An explanation of the landmarks, descriptions and designated locations is in order. This land was originally Mecklenburg, N.C. Some of the grants given by the Governor of NC in this area called it Craven County, some called it Anson County, some called it Berkely County later it was called Old 96 District of SC, then in 1772 it finally became Spartanburg. The first plot of ground our Millers lived on was far to the East, on the east banks of the Catawba River, they moved around 1752 to the area of Tyger River in Spartanburg. Although the ownership of the lands by either NC or SC changed, the Tyger rivers never moved. Most of this land is within 10 miles of the City of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, County, SC. Sing to the tune of "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS.........(lol) All I want for Christmas are your family group sheets, Your family group sheets, your family group sheets. Gee, if I could only have your family group sheets, Then I would have a Merry Christmas! It's been quite awhile since we first talked And you said that you would send me information Gosh, oh gee, how happy I'd be I'm not a fan of one-way communication! I don't mean to be a pest or harass you, Harass you, harass you, I don't mean to be a pest or harass you, But I really need those family group sheets! I need to know was it Jack or Joe, Or was it Fred, George, Bill, or was it Uncle Francis? Who was your great grandpa? Are we related after all? I need help filling in fam'ly tree branches! I'll gladly reimburse you copy fees and postage costs, Copy fees and postage costs, copy fees and postage costs. I don't expect something for nothing, I have much to share. Collaborating will make a Merry Christmas! Perhaps you think you haven't much I need to know, But I assure you every little piece helps! It takes more than just names that match and dates that seem to fit To put together an accurate family history! So much has been lost with the passage of time And the failure of most folks to keep in touch. Our lives might seem quite dull and of no import But one can't know which mundane things will mean so much! One day, when down the road our bones have turned to dust, Have turned to dust, have turned to dust. Our family will know how we lived if we will only learn to share Pieces of ourselves through family history. It's true some may say, she was a wacky ole dame, Who seemed to care more for the dead than for the living. But time will tell, if she spent her time well Please remember it is the season to be giving! I hope you're not offended by my begging song, My begging song, my begging song. [Unable to display image] Genealogist's Christmas Eve (Twas the Night Before Christmas) 'Twas the night before Christmas When all through the house Not a creature was stirring, Not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote; Sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and such Were proof that my work had become too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop >From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills, While others bought gifts to bring Christmas cheers, I'd spent time researching those birth dates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright/Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and yanked up the sash. When what with my wondering eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleigh and with eight small reindeer. Up to the house top the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys and 'lo Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs, As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa--KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good 'lo Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk.) Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy: When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you," Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amusement--the cover it read Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead. "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug." He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folk who can't find a thing." "Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard his exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!"

Hello Lists, Just to let everyone know, I am changing from homepage.com (too many problems and they are about to stop homepages) to 50megs.com. So far, all is looking brighter than most Christmas Lights. However, I still am having problems with DFTCOM2 (family tree) working on the new site (same as the old though, won't load) and I have to correct my address with all the links I have. The links to other sites work fine though and the old photos and obits seem to be loading quicker. I will work on the tree over the holidays. I may have to go back to GED2WWW for the tree, but it is about an 86 page upload with our tree size. Also, the Patterson and Shelburne, Nova Scotia portions of the tree have grown and I am awaiting snail mail of records. I am very excited about that though! Our old address: http://patterson.family.homepage.com our new address: http://pattersonfamily.50megs.com or Patterson Family Page Happy Holidays to all and I hope to hear feedback and suggestions from all. Especially on my tree problem! Sincerely, Donna Patterson IttyBkShp@aol.com
Hi Marsha, Read your message here with interest. My Miller's were from New Jersey and went to Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Wondering about a connection here. Joseph Miller married Katharine Botafield, children John H. Miller (my line) born 1800, Mary born 1802 , George, born 1806 all in New Jersey. Then Daniel, born 1808, Adam, born 1813, Samuel born 1819, Catharine born 1820 and Issac born 1823 in Ohio. Joseph and Katharine are both buried in the Buck Creek Cemetery, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Would love to exchange information and explore this further if you think there might be a connection. Hello, This is my first posting to the Miller List. I am seeking family information on my GG-grandfather JARVIS MILLER, born 3 Oct 1821, in (I believe) Ashtabula Co. possibly Colebrook Twp. He married (25 Apr 1844) LUCY BREWER TREAT in Ashtabula Co. Ohio They had three children born in Colebrook , Ashtabula Co.Ohio. Twin daughters Josephine and Emmogene, born 22 Sept. 1845, and a son Ashley, born 1850, who died in about his twelfth year. In 1849 Jarvis left Ohio for the California Gold Rush and that is the last information we have on him. It's assumed that he died either in California or on the way.,although there is no family record listing his death. I'm trying to connect with someone who may have him listed as a son or sibling in their line. Unfortunately I have neither his parents or siblings names. Any information greatly appreciated Joanne Mack Salem,OR. wrmjam@uswest.net
