Charles & list, I have a second Miller line, Apcelia Miller who married David James Blackman on 29 Aug 1824 in Gallatin Co. IL. (Their residence later became Saline Co.) Apcelia was b. about 1800-1805 in KY to Absalom Miller and Sarah Armstead. Absalom was on the 1806 tax list for Muhlenburg Co. KY. Apcelia had brothers James, Stephan, and John Miller. Other possible children for Absalom include William, George W., Charles, Bryant, and Elijah Miller. ( I have not proven these children - some of those names which came from other researchers are in question.) Thanks for any help on the Absalom Miller family. LeAnn
Charles, If you're still willing to look for more Millers, I'm interested in all Miller lines in Stoddard, Cape Girardeau and Bollinger Counties in MO, and Lincoln Co. in NC. I'm most interested in the line of Martin Miller and Sophia Rendleman who came to southeast MO from Lincoln Co. NC, then went to AR where Martin died in 1821. Their children were Nicholas, Susannah (Hogan), Sophia (Green), George C., Elizabeth (Bollinger, Vineyard), Margaret (Perkins), Katharine (Lineberger), and Hannah (Siever, Jarrett). I'm trying to trace descendants of George C. and Catherine Miller, including Martin C., John C., and possibly Nicholas, Joseph, and others. (Was Joseph father of John L. Miller of Stoddard Co., and was John L. father of Robert K. Miller?) I'm also interested in the line of John Miller of Lincoln Co. NC who came to Cape Co. MO on Bollinger's wagon train in 1800, and whose son, Jacob, married Sophia Bollinger and moved to Stoddard Co. MO by the 1830's. Jacob and Sophia's children were Henry, Joseph, Daniel B., Fanny, Delila, John M., Pitman, Jacob B. and George. I have extensive files on all Millers I find in Stoddard Co. MO, and I welcome any additional information or queries on them. LeAnn
I am descended from this line ... from Elizabeth, daughter of Charles Miller & Priscilla Lucas. Elizabeth (b: ?, married Theodorick Webb abt 1776, d: aft 1777) She died probably just after giving birth to daughter, Priscilla E. Webb. I have a bit more information on the Charles Miller line - from a typewritten family history ... I photocopied it while in a library in South Carolina. Despite great success on other lines for many in my extended family, my Miller line remains unsolved! My research points to -- but DOES NOT establish the data below. Anybody else have Millers in Alabama? My Mary Ann Miller, Born 28 Feb. 1823, in Alabama, married James Moore, had five children, William, Elizabeth, Enoch, Lena and Christina, the family found living in 1850 AL census in the Chestnut Creek, Autauga Co. G'Day Charles, A new lister, I may be doing this wrong, if so reply with correct way. My grandparents were Andrew Hepburn Miller born about 1875/6 married 23 Jul 1897 to Helen Dryburgh born 2 May 1876. These events happened in Fife, Scotland. I have these numbers from a copy of their marriage certificate given to me by my mother Grace Dryburgh Bennett (nee Miller) born 28 Jan 1909. Siblings: Mathew, William born 11 Jan 1904, Helen, Margaret, Elizabeth. Andrew died 21 Dec 1911, Widow and children migrated to Victoria, Australia from Kirkcaldy in Fife on the TS Balranald in 1925. Basically I know about Grace forward in my direction but little else in the other direction. I suspect but do not know for sure that Andrew's parents were Mathew Miller and Elizabeth Hepburn married 3 Mar 1865 in Fife. If this rings any bells I would like to hear from you, [email protected] On list is fine. Cheers John in Western Australia.
Hi list I thought I would ask agein if anyone else is researching Millers form TN in early 1800s? Please contact me if you are. Thanks, Carol

Hello all, I need to know the parents & siblings of George V. Miller, born 1811 in New York state (or Pennsylvania??). George married Elvira Owen in 1843 somewhere in New York state and had 9 children: Alice, John G, Joseph, Carrie, Clara, Alta, Sadie, Byron and Henry. This family is on 1850and 1855 census records in Wales and East Aurora, Erie County NY. By the 1860 Federal census, the family had moved to Marengo, McHenry County, Illinois where they remained until George died in 1871 and Elvira died in 1910. Most of the children resided in Marengo, Belvidere and Chicago, all in Illinois. Joseph moved to Muscatine Iowa and had many children; Henry moved to Lake Geneva Wisconsin. It is possible that George is related some way to Amelia (Miller) Bradley whose husband was County Clerk in Boone County Illinois in the 1850's and 1860's. One source states that Amelia was also from East Aurora, Erie County, NY. If I can connect George to Amelia, then it is possible that George's father is John Miller (who had brothers Olliver and Waterbury), but this is all speculation at this point. I am descended from Alice who married William John Meehan in the 1860's and were parents of my great grandfather, James Adelbert Meehan. I have quite a bit of information on this Miller family and will gladly share info with others in this line. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Kay Waterloo [email protected]
Hello list ...again, Can I make a request of everyone seeking look ups from Charles Moore? When writing to the list and to Charles, could you please also list any known children from the adults about whom you are inquiring? Some of you are listing children and/or siblings and I thank you. I know it takes more effort to type it all out. But I think everyone could benefit from the extra effort. Thanks so much, Tina --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I am searching for the parents of my GGGrandfather, ISAAC MILLER. He lived in Washington County, Ohio. Was married to Hester VanValey. I have all his descendants, but have not been able to find his parents. Does anyone know anything about Isaac Miller, born July 5, 1812, to Peter Miller and Catharine Leffler? He was born july 25, 1775, Catharine April 21, 1782. On the website of descendants of Jacob Miller, was Isaac. I have never found another Isaac born the same year as my GGG. Family lore says the Millers came to Pa. with a shipment of William Penn, but researching that, William Penn brought many shipments of people in. My Isaac was born 1812, census states Pa. I am trying to find all the Isaac's, then find out who they married, etc. so maybe eliminate the wrong ones, anyway. Doris
Hello list and especially to Doris of [email protected], Can you please tell me more about this Jacob Miller you referenced in your note about Isaac Miller? I notices you also wrote about OH Millers. Hello list, I just got this information below from a distant relation of mine and thought it may help all of you with your brick walls. I've read all the Miller emails coming in and unfortunately don't see any with an Adolph Miller who's parents may be Jacob and Catherine Miller of Bavaria. In the 1860 Ohio census, an Adolph is shown living with these parents along with a brother, Theodore, in Vermillion/Vermilion, Ashland Co., OH. Ring any bells for anyone? I hope you all find this helpful. Tina Czopek Descendant of Adolph and Virginia Della Miller of Delaware, OH German Naming Practices: 1. At baptism, if two given names were given to the child, the first given name was a spiritual, saint's name, originally developed from Roman Catholic tradition and continued by the Protestants in their baptismal naming customs. The second given name was the secular or call name, which is the name the person was known by, both within the family and to this rest of the world. The spiritual name, usually to honor a favorite saint, was usually repeatedly given to all the children of that family of the same sex. Thus the boys would be Johan Adam Kerchner, Johan George Kerchner, etc., or Philip Peter Kerchner, Philip Jacob Kerchner, etc. Girls would be named Anna Barbara Kerchner, Anna Margaret Kerchner, etc., or Maria Elizabeth Kerchner, Maria Catherine Kerchner, etc. But after baptism, these people would not be known as John, Philip, Anna, or Maria, respectively. They would instead be known by what we would think of now as their middle name, which was their secular name. Thus these people would be known respectively as Adam, George, Peter, Jacob, Barbara, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Catherine in legal and secular records. For males, the saint's name Johan or John was particularly heavily used by many German families. The child's secular name was really John, if and only if, at baptism he was named only John, usually Johannes, with no second given name. Many researchers, new to German names, who find a baptism of an individual with a name such as Johan Adam Kerchner thus mistakenly spend a lot of time looking for a John Kerchner in legal and census records, when he was known after baptism, to the secular world, as Adam Kerchner. Also when reading county histories, etc., especially those written by individuals in the 20th century, and the author is referring to someone as John Kerchner, and you are not looking for a John Kerchner, but the history sounds otherwise familiar, further research may turn up that this person was really not a John Kerchner, but instead was someone else such as a Johan George Kerchner. You would thus find all his 18th century records recorded under the name George Kerchner and not John Kerchner and therefore after checking the data and correlating the facts you may find this is really a story about your missing George Kerchner. 2. The term "Senior" and "Junior" following a name did not necessarily imply a father and son relationship, as it does now. It could have been an uncle and nephew who had the same name and lived near each other. It could be a grandfather and a grandchild living together, where the father has died. It could even be two unrelated individuals with the same name but of different ages who lived near each other. So to help friends and business associates keep track of who-was-who in their discussions and records, they added on the "Sr." Or "Jr." which merely meant the older and the younger, respectively. 3. The term cousin was widely used to mean an extended family, not the specific legal definition we understand it to be today. 4. It was a common practice in some German families to name the first born son after the child's paternal grandfather and the second born son after the maternal grandfather. Here are several more detailed naming patterns practiced by some families. Pattern A 1st son after the father's father 2nd son after the mother's father 3rd son after the father 4th son after the husband's father's father 5th son after the wife's father's father 6th son after the husband's mother's father 7th son after the wife's mother's father 1st daughter after the wife's mother 2nd daughter after the husband's mother 3rd daughter after the mother 4th daughter after the father's father's mother 5th daughter after the mother's father's mother 6th daughter after the father's mother's mother 7th daughter after the mother's mother's mother Pattern B The pattern B for the sons is the same as the above but this pattern for daughters was different 1st daughter after the father's mother 2nd daughter after the mother's mother 3rd daughter after the mother 4th daughter after the mother's father's mother 5th daughter after the father's father's mother Pattern C 1st son after the father's father 2nd son after the mother's father 3rd son after the father's oldest brother 4th son after the father 1st daughter after the father's mother 2nd daughter after the mother's mother 3rd daughter after the mother's oldest sister 4th daughter after the mother Whenever a duplicate name occurred in these patterns, the next name in the series was used. If a child died in infancy the name was often reused for the next child of the same gender. If you are lucky enough to find a family with a lot of children, who strictly followed one of these naming patterns, then it may give you useful clues to determining the possible names of family members in earlier generations. 5. An "in" or "en", added to the end of a name, such as Anna Maria Kerchnerin, is a Germanic language name ending suffix denoting that the person is female. Thus the correct spelling of the last name in the example would be Kerchner, not Kerchnerin. 6. An "er" or "ner", added to a surname based on the name of something, denoted that the person worked with that object or at that occupation, if the main portion of the name was an object or an occupation, or that the person was from that geographic location or city, if the main portion of the name was a geographic location. Examples: Forst is German for a forest, thus Forster is one who worked in a forest or with woodlands or was from a forest. Berlin is a city in Germany, thus Berliner is one who is from Berlin. Since English is a Germanic rooted language we do the same thing in English, i.e., Paint(er), Garden(er), New York(er). --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hello everyone!! Looking for Edward Miller and his descendants from Wayne Co., MI. Edward was born in 1874, Redford Township, Wayne Co., MI., to George Miller and Mary Gare Miller. Mary died in 1877, and George married a Charlotte Gittins in 1878. They proceeded to have 4 other sons. Edward married a woman named Mary (maiden name unknown, but she apparently was from "English-Canada", according to the census). Their children were Russell, b. 1907?, George, b. 1912, and Mildred, probably about 1919. The last they were found was in the 1930 census, still in Wayne Co., and living on Kirby Street. I would really appreciate information on this family. Thanks, Debbie Miller Holth

Hi, I really believe no one else comes down my line of Millers. I have searched for yrs. in Pa. and NY for help to find out who is father and mother are of Caleb Miller [ born 1801 ] so I can go back further. He lived in Pa. It's all but a brick wall. Jonathon Miller - might be his father but can't prove it - he lived Pa. also. No further info on him either to make a connection. He lived not far from Caleb. Caleb had a son Martin Miller who was in the civil war and lived in Millerton , Pa. - Martin had a son Arthur Miller. Arthur had a son Clifford Miller whom was my grandfather. If anyone can help please let me know. Thank you, Shirley
Listers, Below is my Miller line. I am looking for additional information on this family and confirmation of most of the information I have. I have done the census connections as best I can. Some information has been passed on to me from cousins, cemetery records and various other sources. I did do SSDI checks to the point of using it as a springboard to locating approximate death dates etc. If there is not an exact date (ie: month/day/year) that is because it was either not available or estimated ages from census records.
