    1. [MLR] Miller - KY
    2. Kate Morrison
    3. No one seems to be researching any Millers from KY which is not good news for me (grin). I have an elusive George Wm. Miller b. abt. 1830 in VA, married a Priscilla Boling abt. 1853 in Perry Co. KY and the first I found them was in the 1860 Perry Co. KY census where they listed Priscilla as Silla age 21, with children Nancy A. 7, Evan 5, Malinda 3, and Isah (probably Isiah) 3 mos. Can't find George since then as he and Priscilla divorced and I have no idea if he remarried or went back to VA. It would be wonderful to know if someone has a clue to this mystery. Priscilla, while still married to George, had two daughters fathered by Ned Gay, Mahala and Rena, who grew up with the name of Miller. Don't know what happened to Mahala but Rena b. abt. 1865-66 married a Lewis Brandenburg. There are so many George Millers, I wouldn't know when I found his family as I have no idea who his parents were, only that he had a half brother named Ben. Do I have enough information that it helps someone know who I'm looking for? Thanks - really appreciate!

Or Miller's in Hot Spring Co., AR 1851-1865? The family migrated to Hot Spring Co., AR sometime after 1850, were documented there well prior to 1863, when Enoch left to serve in Civil War at 19. JESSE1 MILLER1,2 was born Bet. 1742 - 17663,4,5, and died 1832 in Harris County, Georgia6,7,8. He married (1) ELIZABETH MCNAIR9,10 Bef. 178311. She was born Bet. 1747 - 1772 in Scotland12,13,14, and died Bet. 1802 - 1803 in Warren County, Georgia15,16. He married (2) MARTHA DENNIS17 December 15, 1803 in Warren County, Georgia18,19,20. She was born Abt. 1781, and died September 10, 1856 in Hamilton, Harris Co., Georgia 21. Notes for JESSE MILLER: The following is excerpted from "The Maddox Family of Maryland with Webster and Related Families," pp. 290-294: Family tradition states that Jesse Miller came from Virginia by way of the Carolinas to Georgia and settled in Warren County. He married Martha McNaire near the time of the Revolutionary War. Martha had immigrated from Scotland to Georgia at the age of twelve with her family. Jesse and Martha had three sons born from 1789-1790: Joshua, Ezekial, and Theophilus. Jesse took up arms against the British and served as a sergeant in the Wilkes County Company under Captain Solomon. On the 4th of February, 1784, Colonel Greensbury Lee of the Third Battalion of Richmond County signed an affidavit certifying that ". . . Jesse Miller hath steadfastly done his duty from the time of passing an act at Augusta, 1791, until the total expulsion of the British from this state and is therefore, under the said act, entitled to a bounty of two hundred and fifty acres of good Land, free from taxes for ten years." Jesse requested 287 acres of land in Washington County and the Warren County tax list of 1794 lists him as owner of 125 acres in Washington County as well as two slaves. His first wife apparently having died, Jesse married Martha, known as Patsy, Dennis in Warren County in 1803. In the Warren County tax list of 1805, Jesse is listed as owning 114 acres and five slaves; in the tax list of 1818, 200 acres and seven slaves. Jesse and Patsy had six daughters and four sons: Nancy, Polly, Malinda, Dennis, Catherine, Joseph, Benjamin, Frances, Sarah Jane, and Martha. In 1828, Harris County, Georgia, was created from the southern portion of Troup County and the northern portion of Muscogee County. Jesse received a land lottery grant there and sometimes between 1828 and 1831 moved his family to Harris County. He lived there until he died. Although the exact date of his death is unknown, his will was probated in Harris County on the 24th of November, 1832. Below is the will of Jesse Miller as recorded in "History of Harris County," by Louise Calhoun Barfield, p. 281-282: WILL OF JESSE MILLER -- REVOLUTIONARY WAR SOLDIER (Hamilton, Ga., Book "66," p. 30) Harris County, Hamilton, Georgia Georgia, Harris County, In the name of God, Amen. 1. [MLR] Repost: Stefan Mueller/Anna Kopic, Austria 1850s
    2. Steve Miller
    3. I am looking for information of Stefan Mueller (or Stephan and/or Miller... transliteration being what it is!). He was born Sept 8, 1854, in the village of Schmeil, [Austria], and died Feb 23, 1914, in New York City. His father was "Mueller, Stefan, tailor of Schmeil"; his mother, "Mueller, Theresa, daughter of George Klein, laborer of Schmeil." This 1880 "Birth and Baptism Certificate" was probably prepared in anticipation of his emmigration. It further discloses that Schmeil was in the Crownland of Moravia, the Political District of Liebau, and the Diocese of the Town of Liebau. He married Anna Kopic, born June 20, 1854, in Cerkanov, [Austria.] She was the daughter of Joseph Kopic, peasant of Cakanova, and Anna, the "legitimate daughter" of Martin Dockala, peasant of Lhoty. Cerkanov was in the province of Bohemia, county of Czaslau, and the political district of German Brod. The copy of her Certificate of Baptism was made in the municipal office at Krasny Hora, March 15, 1878. (Where Stefan's is written in German, hers is written in Hungarian.) Anna Mueller died in Brooklyn, NY, (recorded: Müller) April 18, 1936. She and Stephan had 6 children: Stephanie (known as Fanny), Stephen, Lucy, Arthur, Alfred, Lillian and May (also known as Mary). Stephen was my grandfather. Likely born in 1886, he married Elizabeth Frances Peiser. They had one child, my father, Charles Stephen Miller. This is pretty much the sum total of what I know of my Millers. Apparently, there was some sort of schism between my grandfather and his siblings, though there continued some contact over the years with "Little" Lillie, Lillian's daughter. In fact, it's through her that I have even these records. Hope this looks familiar to someone out there, or that suggestions for further productive avenues of research will result from this posting. I'm not so much interested as in going backwards as finding the offspring of my great aunts and uncles! WOW, was I ever bombarded with e-mails the last couple of days, it was great, but so far I can't find one line that is related to my husbands Miller line from Georgia, then North Carolina not really sure yet on N. Carolina. This is how the lines goes that we are sure of so far: Starting with my husband and going back. 1. Ray Milton Miller Parents: Ralph Meldrum Miller & Nora Lee Farmer - 10 children: Conyer, Mahlon, Lenford, Lois, Ray, Oweda, Chad, Linda, Caroline, Thurmond all born in Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia Grandparents: Claude Emory Miller & Lois Massey - 12 children: Ralph Meldrum, Fred Henry, Eliza Janet, William McKindly, J.R., Bessie Naomia, James Oglesby, Edward, Thomas Edison, and a son and a set of twin daughters never named that dies at birth. Great Grand Parents: Richard Miller Jr. & Eliza Jane Dobbs - 7 children: Thomas Monroe, Henry Alfred, Mamie Lillian, Laura Poter, Ida Anna, Claude Emory, Harrison Freeman. GG Grandparents: Richard Miller Sr. (b. in Burke Co. Georgia) m in Hall Co. Letty Caroline Guthry - 11ch. S. Miller, Malinda Margaret, (twins)J. (f) & R. (m), Richard Jr., Jane, G. Jerry, Letty P.C., Rhoda, Julia A., Rebecca. This line starts to get weak and we are not sure of its correctness. as to the GGG Grandparents as being who we have them as being. GGG Grandparents: George Nelson Miller (b in Burke Co. Ga.) & Elizabeth Niles - 8 children: Benjamin, Richard Sr., James, Elizabeth, Harriett, Catherine Louise. GGGG Grandparents: Richard Nelson Miller (b in Greene Co. Ga ) & Elizabeth Porter - 4 ch. Catherine, George Nelson Miller, Emily, Joanna. GGGGG Grandparents: Reuben Miller (b in Bladenboro, Duplin Co. North Carolina) & Nancy Webb 6 ch. Benjamin, John Webb, Richard Nelson, Eliza J(ames), William, George. GGGGGG Grandparents: David Miller (b in Bladenboro abt 1689) & Pheobe Seymore - 1 ch. Reuben (b 4 Apr 1715) If any of this line sounds familiar to any of the Miller list we would be ever so grateful. Thanking you in advance for any help is kindly appreciated. Ray M. Miller

    1. [MLR] George Theodore Miller and Albert Miller
    2. Trying once again to see if anyone can help me with my MILLER brick walls. I have two MILLER families married to each other, or do I? Could be they were cousins ro second cousins. The mystery still lingers on. Can anyone help me? John William MILLER b.1861 married on 10Oct 1883 to Fannie Belle MILLER b 1866. Both from Harford County, Maryland.. John's parents were George Theodore MILLER and Mary Elizabeth Andrews. It appears that George was born in PA 1937 and Mary in Harford County, MD 1883. Fannie's parents were Albert MILLER and Sallie Ann BRANNON. Both were born in Harford County, MD Now, George also moved to Harford County, MD presumably as a child. Family rememberances were that John and Fannie were "related" before marriage. Same family recollections are that George and Albert were brothers, making John and Fannie "1st cousins" or could have been cousins, making John and Fannie "2nd cousins". Also there is nothing written about this but it was said to be the reason 2 of John and Fannie's children died young due to the close family relationship. I have only found 1 child who died in infancy and one as a young lady. Another rumor was that George was Pennsylvania dutch. Would anyone searching in PA or Harford County, MD or New Castle County, Delaware (where most of this family ended up). Have any connections or information on this family. I have no siblings for either George Theodore MILLER or Albert MILLER or the the possibility that they may be siblings. Hope someone can help me with this brick wall. Thanks. Take care. Vickie

    3. Hi ALL; Glad to see the miller list going active. I would like to ask if you all who are posting a question or asking for help to please put the state ( PA, NY, VA, MICH.or where ever) of the Miller family you are looking for in the subject line, this will help us that know the possible connection or non-connection to the family in question. This will allow us who wish to just delete the message out of our known area if we wish to do so without having to open them to see they are not in our area of search. I say THANKS to all and Happy Hunting. 1. [MLR] census and some of its odds and ends
    2. You have brought up some good points for all of us to think about. One of the problems I've run into in some states whilst reading the 1870 census was the enumerators used only initials for the given and middle names. Also, as if that wasn't bad enough, I don't have to tell any of you how hard it is sometimes to figure out if you are looking at a capital L or capital S just to mention a few letters. CGM

I'm sure many veterans know this, but it's still worth mentioning. Another issue I've found is that in certain periods of history, many men (but not usually women) used their first and middle initials in business life rather than their full names. Thus almost all public records in the late 19th and early 20th century for my great grandfathers on both sides show them as "T. J. Cook, OD" and "H. M. Lee." I always try these designations in search engines. Finally, I've found regularly that people of all eras sometimes go by their middle names instead of their first names. And sometimes this changes. Thus my grandfather, Fleming Edward Miller, was known as "Fleming Miller" in 1930, but "Edward Miller" in 1920. His grandfather, Fleming Mitchell Miller, was known as "Fleming Miller" in some census records, "Mitchell Miller" in others, and "Mitch Miller" in some church records and newspaper accounts. Forgive me if I am restating the obvious, but these issues have caught me up more than once in the past.

    3. For those of you who have not had the opportunity to visit Waterford, Loudoun County, Virginia, it looks today, very close to what it looked like 150 years ago or more. It is a very old little village and can really give you a feel for the "old" days. It was a Quaker settlement. I have not been out there in about 10 years, but it is a neat place to see. I live about an hour from there. Also, if you are not aware, Ruth and Sam Sparacio published the Deeds - 1757-1797, Wills - 1757 - 1793 and Tithables 1758-1781 for Loudoun County. Sam is deceased now, and Ruth lives with one of their daughters in Texas (I believe), but they now have a website for all of their published books. Basically they have published the Deeds, Wills, and other types of court records for the counties NORTH of Richmond, VA. However, after visiting their site, I see that they are now doing Richmond and Hanover County records too. The web site is www.antientpress.com if you care to visit it and see what other publications they have. meg Jill Miller wrote: > Oh so many Millers! And oh so many illusive Millers. He was born in 1850-1860 in E. Pa. but married Rachel Flory about 1781 in Franklin Co. Their first child was born 1782 in or near Washington Twp., Franklin Co. and the next two 1784 and 1788 in Shrewsbury Twp., York Co.. Since the counties were being reorganized during this period I'm not positive which counties may have been in place for these townships. Would you know? Second, do any of your Miller lines have a Henry born about this time? ------ Hi, Larry- In answer to your county/location question, Franklin County was formed from Cumberland County in 1784--it was not part of York County--so there was an actual move involved with the locations where the above mentioned children were born. Shrewsbury Twp., York Co. PA would have been the same in 1784-88 as it is today. As to the second question--I wish I knew! I have two female ancestors whose maiden names are MILLER and I can't conclusively prove in either case who their parents are. All of my MILLERs that I know are included in my GEDCOM on WorldConnect located here: http://wc.rootsweb.com/~joan_young A listing for the two follows: ID: I129 Name: Sarah MILLER Sex: F Death: ABT. 1888 1 Marriage 1 Henry LEIB Children Harriet LEIB b: 28 OCT 1829 in Dover Twp., York County, PA Jesse LEIB b: ABT. 1825 Peter LEIB b: ABT. 1827 Ezra LEIB b: ABT. 1831 Matilda LEIB b: ABT. 1831 Elizabeth LEIB Sarah LEIB Anna Mary LEIB Leah LEIB Sources: will Dover Twp. 12 January, 1888 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ID: I195 Name: Susanna MILLER Sex: F Marriage 1 Peter KONIG/KING Married: 6 MAR 1800 in York, York County, PA Note: Peter Konig and Susanna Miller were married by the Rev. Coincidence or connection to the earlier MUELLER? I have no idea. The LEIPP/LEIBs in Germany/Switzerland were Mennonites in the early days if that helps anyone who may have information on any of these lines. He names most of his sons with his name as a middle name and they continue it with their children. So maybe his father is a Jonathan. He also lived in Somerset near a Michael, Jacob and John Miller. I haven't been able to connect them but it is possible they might be siblings or at least related. Does any of this fit with any of your Miller lines. Thanks Larry
