    1. William M Miller b abt 1816 Indiana
    2. Paddy Buckley
    3. I have traced my line back to William M Miller born abt 1816 in Indiana, who was enumerated in the 1860 census for Madison Tsp, Daviess Co Indiana age 42, with wife Arena 39 and 9 children including James 8 and Jasper 6. At the census of 1870 this family was located in McCameron Tsp, Martin Co, Indiana; William M Miller age 51 with wife Areena (? Arrena) age 48; and 8 children including James 16 and Jasper 16. James H Miller married Mary Elizabeth Wilson in abt 1874 and Jasper Newton Miller married Nancy Elizabeth Overstreet in about 1886. The earlier census of 1850 places William M Miller & wife Arena in Brown Tsp, Martin Co, Indiana. Is anyone else researching this family? Paddy Buckley

    1. Re: Francis Miller of Nova Scotia DNA help!
    2. S Palmer
    3. Brian, You need to have FTDNA perform a Deep Clade test to provide additional information about your Haplogroup. http://www.familytreedna.com/deepclade.html Have you uploaded your FTDNA results to the National Geographic Genographic Project? The results are interesting and could provide additional information about your haplogroup. The instructions and a link should have been sent to you with notification of the FTDNA results. I think as more people become interested in DNA for genealogy, the likelihood of a match will increase. We've gotten several matches but the most common recent ancestor was too far back for a match and the researchers, like myself, do not have enough recent family data (i.e. since the mid-1800's) to find a link. Did your Miller's settle in Pennsylvania or remain in Canada? Good luck to you. The greater love is a mother's; then comes a dog's; then a sweetheart's - Polish Proverb.

    1. Francis Miller of Nova Scotia DNA help!
    2. Brian Miller
    3. Hi! I am a descendant of Francis Miller (Francis, Adam Francis, Nelson, Ezra, Avard, Earle Russell, Earle Wesley, Earle Wesley) and have been dilligently trying to figure out more on where Francis came from. I'm hoping there is someone who can possibly help me out in my continuing endeavors... About two months ago I ordered a 37-marker DNA test from FamilytreeDNA. I recently received my results and I was quite surprised at what they said. I was under the assumption that I just might fit into the rest of the "typical" Miller surname with results in England or Germany. But that was surely not the case! In case you're curious, here are my current results: http://www.ysearch.org/research_comparative.asp?uid=FU3VZ&vallist=FU3VZ Based on the results, my DNA falls into "Haplogroup Q". According to one site, "Haplogroup Q arose in Central Asia and migrated through the Altai/Baikal region of northern Eurasia into the Americas. Today it is found in North Eurasia, with some exemplars in European populations. The Q3 sub-group is almost exclusively associated with Native American populations." To help you understand, haplogroups are defined by genetic mutations or "markers" found in Y chromosome testing. These markers link the members of a haplogroup back to the marker's first appearance in the group's most recent common ancestor. In essence, this particular haplogroup is Siberian in historical context and is also the same genetic group from which all Native Americans derived from. However, there are some rare instances of this group migrating to Europe and Scandanavia, but it is only a tiny percentage. What this tells me is that either Francis Miller was either: a) An unique individual with a unique lineage b) Somewhere along the line I have a cheating grandmother c) An unrecorded adoption along my line After putting my current results online, I matched a whopping ZERO individuals within any reasonable genetic distance. That was by far the most frustrating part of my results. Since there is nobody to compare my results to, I have no way to determine if somewhere in my tree there was an "indiscretion" by a grandmother, or if Francis Miller just came from an uniquely rare genetic group. Hopefully this is where you kind people come in... I'm hoping there is someone on this list that might be or know of a male Miller with ties to Francis Miller. If so, please contact me privately as I would love to discuss the possibility of having you do a test so I can get a better picture of this Miller line. I certainly hope there is someone out there interested in doing this! I am part of the "Miller DNA" group at FamilytreeDNA ( http://www.millerfamilyhistory.com/) but there isn't anything even remotely close that matches. Thanks!

    2. Paddy Buckley
    3. Hi Nancy In English bell ringing practice (known as 'change ringing' to its devotees) a sally is the first stroke of the bell; and the hole through which the bell-rope runs is called the 'sally hole'. Nothing to do with your swimming holes. As children we used to go out into the country just before Palm Sunday to cut 'sallies' or 'palm' from the willow trees just coming into blossom, to decorate the church and the house. Did the practice carry over to Missouri, or was the spring season a bit later than over here? Paddy

    1. Louisa Jane & Matilda Miller
    2. I'm searching for information on Louisa Jane & Matilda Miller, I don't know if they were sisters who were their parents ??or not but they lived in Gasconade Co., Missouri in the 1850, as Louisa Miller married 24 Dec 1846 a Thomas J. Tucker , Matilda Miller married 02 Apr 1854, an Andrew Jackson Tucker , (both in Gasconade Co.,) who were brothers. by 1860 Thomas & Louisa Tucker was in Polk, St. Clair Co., Missouri, I'm from the Andrew & Matilda (Miller) Tucker line, I haven't found Andrew Tucker since the 1850 census, think he might of died in the civil war. I found Matilda Miller Tucker in 1870 - 1780 census in Greene Co., Missouri, Matilda must of died before the 1900 census, but haven't found for sure. I would like to find any descendents of these families, Thank you Clara

I'm related to Millers of Franklin and Gasconade Co. MO.. I wonder if she was a daughter of William Miller (or one of his 1/2 brothers).. who moved on to Miller Co. MO.. William was a son of Boyd Miller. I am a descendant of Boyd Miller whose daughter Anna Miller m. Thomas L. Maupin of the same area.
