From a non-member, Pat Kinzie; please email her directly if you have any information for her. <pkkinzie@pacbell.net> I have some information on James Hampton, b. 1776 New York, d. 27 Oct 1858 Resided first in Lenawee County 1850 United States Federal Census RecordMichigan > Lenawee > Tecumseh > Page 62, for James Hampton, age. 74, farmer, born in NY Son, James B. Hampton b. 1811 Genoa, Cayuga, New York, US. Both held the below mentioned property in Lenawee County in 1827. Resided at least until 1870 in Franklin, Lenawee. James B. children Elbert (1861 - 1934), Warren J. (b. 1846), Laverne (b. 1848), and Charles (b. 1842) were all born on the Franklin Farm in Lenawee County. Laverne was still living there in 1920. My great grandfather Elbert Hampton (above) left for Oregon/CA around 1880 and settled on Mt. Lassen, CA in Paynes Creek, Tehama County, CA. He homesteaded this area and owned property in Mineral, CA where he ran the post office & general store. My grandfather Olen, and my father, Warren Jack were born and raised on this homestead. If you come across any records relating to the Hampton family in Lenawee, I would appreciate knowing. They appear on census records but there are many other Hamptons also and I am not sure how we are related. Below are some land records on the Hampton in Lenawee.
