Sarah Knapp was originally married to Benjamin Knapp. She died in 1850 and is listed on the 1850 census as dead the census year. Evidently she died of childbirth. The child was named Joseph Goodman Knapp. From what I understand, she had left Benjamin, married Joseph Knapp, had George Fuller Knapp, and Joseph Knapp must have died within 9 months of the birth of the baby. She was buried in the cemetary as the wife of Benjamin Knapp, and he must have adopted the baby Joseph Goodman. George Fuller Knapp apprenticed under a blacksmith when he was nine. Benjamin must have been willing to take Joseph, but not George. Maybe you can add more to the mystery, or correct some of it.
