I do know that Elon and Nancy Ella Smith Boyce's marriage license bears the signature of one William T. Hoag as a witness to their marriage. Haven't established a relationship between the Joseph Smith family and the family of Israel K. Smith (1833-1918). I'd check the Israel K. Smith at Rootsweb for a connection.
