Obits. I have had difficulty finding the cemetery my GGGparents were buried at. I have pictures of three of their childrens headstones, all from Deerfield Township Cemetery. But the Parents elude me. They are William and Philinda Armitage. They had a farm in Deerfield Township, prior to being Deerfield, the 1870 census showed them in Summerfield, Monroe Co., with a Deerfield post office. But, I believe it was then incorporated into Lenawee county. Latter census's show them in Deerfield, Lenawee county. William Armitage died on 28 Nov 1897 in Deerfield and his wife, Philinda Armitage died on 10 Nov 1898 in Deerfield. Thank you for your assistance. Trisha
Trisha, I am no expert on county lines and such, but, I don't believe the county lines between Monroe and Lenawee counties were changing as late as 1870. Could it be that your William was renting the farm in Monroe and later moved over to Lenawee?? Also could it be that they were buried with no headstones?? It is not uncommon. Have you checked the work, Gravestones of Lenawee County, done in 1930-40 era by Adrian DAR for a listing for William?? Were they Catholic?? If so, and if buried in the Catholic cemetery, you might find that listed as a Monroe County cemetery, as technically, that cemetery is 1/2 mile east of the county lines and is IN Monroe County, even tho the Catholic church that owns the cemetery is IN Deerfield! I have had people argue with me about this, but, if you drive out there, you will find I am right. I would think you might have a better shot at a obit from the Blissfield Newspapers or the one in Petersburg. Both are hard to find, Petersburg, not sure what years, but not many, might be housed at the Library of Michigan. Blissfield is housed on film at the Lenawee County Public Library in Adrian. Good luck in your search.
