    1. Re: Brainard Lines in Michigan
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mFB.2ACE/2685.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I take it you have not heard of these books. Lucy Brainard is a decendent of Daniel Brainard of Haddam, Conn, He is believed to have been the first one of Brainard/Brainerd to come to America in 1641. Now information on him and dates differ with different things. But this book is about his decendents. He had (I think) 9 children and most all Brainard/Brainerd in America are somehow tied to him. Lucy Brainard is one of these decendents and lived in the 1800's. She devoted most of her life in doing the research and publishing of these books that were published in about 1908. Most information ends in about 1900 or just before but my grandfather is in it with his family. So if a person can go back with their line at least to 1880 or 1900 then it is possible to find their line in these books. I have however found missing people in our line that were not in the books. Some information on dates and all are not right so I have researched as much as possible to correct it, but it is ! a place to start when there is no other way of knowing especially when you get back past the 1850 census. There is no index of names to show the pages they are on so I have to go page by page to find them if they are there. That is why I say that it will be a few days before I can get back on this. If you want you can e-mail me direct. I did find in the 1820 census of Greene, Chenango co., NY that there was a Daniel Brainard.
