It's possible James chose not to mention that his father was not a widower when he left the kids to seek his fortune, but the marriage to Ms. Clapsaddle is recorded. Is “Deliah DeLong”, the woman Thos. Gordon DeLong lives with in the 1860 Mariposa, California census, his wife .... the former Ms Clapsaddle? A boy, Herbert DeLong age 13, born in Michigan, was living with them. When his father left, James B DeLong, says he went to Winfield, Iowa, at age 12, to clerk in the store of former Adrian MI resident, David Harper. Read the bio “for the rest of the story” According to a researcher on WorldConnect, brother Charles DeLong, 1st went to Norwich Ontario to live with his father's sister, Adeline (DeLong) Throckmorton. I didn’t find Lois/Louis or Wilmouth/Wilmuth Delong You might want to check out the connection to the DeLong's cousins, the Lossing family. The Lossing's and DeLong's moved together from N.Y., to Norwich, Canada. Nicholaus and Mary (West) Lossing came from there to Raisin Twp., Lenawee Co., MI (buried in the Raisin Center Friends Cemetery) about the same time that T. Gordon DeLong's family moved to Lenawee Re Pearson family, I see that “Blandina Peerson” is said to be the great-grandmother of T. Gordon DeLong so there may be other family ties. Anne
