    3. Mary, there are marriages BEFORE 1867. Period, no doubt, absolutely! There is a copy of the first marriage book at the Library of Michigan on microfilm. NOT all marriages were recorded, which may be the case with your 1858 marriage. 1841, I believe I heard something about a lot of people dying in a short time frame, 1841 might be it. Something about one winter, almost every family had a death due to illness. Elijah Brown marriage, unless you can find a bible record that is before our marriage records start, they start in 1852 right after the courthouse burned down. Sorry, not a lot of help, but maybe an explanation.
