Looking for information on Elizabeth Milligan. Daughter of Thomas Milligan (born 12 Jul 1802 on the boat from Ireland to the US and died 28 Jan 1872 in PA) and Elizabeth Palmyra LaCoe (b 25 Dec 1813 and died 4 Mar 1884 in PA) The family had no more information than she was the youngest and moved to Michigan after her mother's death. They lived in the Lackawanna Township and Newton Township area in northeast PA. With census information, I believe Elizabeth was born about 1855. Her brother, Anthony Milligan (born Apr 1847), also moved to Michigan (Sherman Township, Isabella County). According to census reports, he stayed there and never married. No idea when he died or where he is buried. He lived in 1900, 1910, and 1920 with Rosetta / Roseta Adams (b. 1859) and then just her son Roy Adams (b. 1894). Other families from the Newton and Ransom Township area (in northeast PA) settled in Woodstock and Devil's Lake including their first cousin, my uncle Louis or Lewis Stephen LaCoe who married Rhoda Pearson of Devil's Lake. Other surnames include Bedell, Rosenkrans, Thompson, Richards Does anyone have any information on her? Her husband was James Elliot Lowery; they lived in Tecumseh, MI and are buried there. James Lowery was a stonemason; he used to ride the train from the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area and jump off when he got near home and walk the rest of the way along the tracks. One of these times, about 1905, he was attacked and robbed (it was payday). He was found dead by his wife, who went out with a lantern to find him; his body was on the tracks, so you can imagine what it was like. Florence Lowery married James Albert Conklin, son of James Edward Conklin and Alice Rachel Flynn. Florence was Presbyterian and James was Catholic; they were married in the Roman Catholic Church and raised their children as Catholics. My great-grandfather's family did not approve of his courtship of a Protestant girl. He came home one day and announced that he was "marrying Florence" and they could come if they wanted to; they were so ashamed that they attended. He worked on the Michigan Central Railroad for many years as an engineer and conductor; he lost a finger in a switching yard accident. Florence and James had two children, Alice Lina (1908-1965?...she was in her 50s and died of diabetes) and James Albert, Jr. (1915-1989). James Albert, Jr. is my grandfather. Interestingly, he also married a Protestant (Mary Isaacs, 1910-1970) and raised his children Catholic. Anna Lowery lived with her daughter and son-in-law after she was widowed. She was apparently proud of having been born in England, and one day my grandfather (about 11 years old) came downstairs and told her he'd been reading a book about "the bloody British." She was very upset and he was made to apologize, though he didn't know why she thought what he'd said was so bad. I could go on, but I'll stop before you get bored. :) Hope this helps somehow. Growing up in the Devils Lake area, I often heard my great-grandmother refer to where she lived on Round Lake as Geneva.
