I am including his obituary below. His second wife was Catherine MCHENRY (d.1890). I don't know if McHenry is a maiden or married name. They were married in 1884 when Samuel was 65. Catherine died in 1890 in Lenawee County. Does Catherine Gardinier appear in cemetery inscriptions in Lenawee County, Michigan? ***** CALLED HIGHER DEATH OF WELL KNOWN PIONEER PREACHER Samuel Gardinier departed this life at the home of his daughter, Jan 5, 1905,at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 5 days. Funeral services were held Saturday the 7th, conducted by Rev. Motter of the M. E. church of Metamora, using as his text for an excellent discourse, 2nd Samuel, 3-38, at Santee Church. The deceased was born at Root, Montgomery Co., N. Y., in 1819, When 14 years of age he, with his parents moved to what is now known as West Toledo. He was united in marriage with Maria Wiggins, May 11, 1845. About 1850 they moved to Fulton county, settling on a farm in Royalton township where they resided until the death of his companion in 1880. To this union, 7 children, 4 sonsb and 3 daughters were born, all of whom, except one son, Bradford, are living. In 1884 he was again united in marriage with Catherine McHenry, and they resided in Lenawee Co., Mich., until her death in 1890. He was converted to God in early life and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. Shortly after, he became a licensed local minister and was an active worker in preaching the gospel and officiating at many funerals. His last work was preaching a funeral sermon for Mrs. Alice Gifford, just about three days before his sickness. He was a very useful man in the community in which he lived, by helping and assisting his fellow-men. He was loved and esteemed by all. About 14 years ago he was stricken with paralysis, from which he only partially recovered and remained an invalid. During this time he exercised a cheerful disposition and bore his sickness with patience. His life should be an example to us all. He leaves 6 children, 29 grand-children and 6 great-grand-children, and a host of friends who mourn their loss, which is his eternal gain. ***** Samuel's daughter, Alida married Moses P. Bryan. Samuel died at their home in Ogden Twp., Lenawee Co., Michigan. I was born in Morenci in 1933 and lived there for 20 years. Pete was indeed, chief of police back when I was a little girl. I have a picture of Pete in his Blacksmith shop that I will email to anyone who would like a copy. Send me a note at joycevan1@yahoo.com. I also had a picture of Pete in his police uniform, but couldn't locate it in the last few minutes - will keep searching. Good luck in your search. Ethel was the daughter of Daniel whom was the brother to Wilson who is my ancestor. Daniel purportedly had 13 children. One of his sons, Chester, ran a grocery in Addison at the site of the former flower shop which now contains the pharmacy. Another of his sons, Carl, was listed in a local history as a "Superintendent" in Detroit. Another son, Edwin, was in California. A daughter Alberta married Albert Lombard and your Ethel married Rev. DeWitt McLouth. I don't have a lot on the Binns, but the family has been in Addison FOREVER! They were probably some of the first into the county. If you want to email me off list put a period between my first and last names and then put @gmail.com after it.
