I also found in 1880 a Frank Barnum age 19 Photographer, and in 1900 census a William Barnum age 36 born Iowa photographer. The Stephenson studio had the address 38 South Main st Adrian. When I received my father's family information which 9 newspaper articles the bill was only $3.25. They will search these for you and send them to you. If you want to send the payment with the letter, you are welcome to do so. Be sure to send them as much informaion you as you can - it will cut the search time for them. go to the Lenawee County GENWEB site, snoop around for the address and such of the COUNTY CLERK. Contact them for how to get a certified birth certificate. Birth records are held by the county, not the town of Addison. Fee should be $13.00 from the county, much more if you go to the State of Michigan. Good luck in your research. This is not the same school as started by Aunt Laura. Her statue is situated in front of the City of Adrian office building, right next to the Lenawee County HIstorical Society (old city library, built in part by funds from Carnegie) This school is now run by the state, and because of privacy rules and security rules, we are not allowed much access to the grounds. The Lenawee County HIstorical Society, may have additional or more recent photos of the Adrian Girls School, also known as the Industrial School. It was even at one time a coed facility, but I believe a few years ago, they went back to all girls, COULD BE WRONG, that is what I seem to remember. In reply to recent messages about HOLDRIDGE, I don't know if this will help, but I can provide some information. In 1844, Fulton Jack (my great-great grandfather) sold a portion of his farm that had been used as a cemetery. Four persons, believed to be his neighbors, purchased undivided interests in this parcel: Robert Boyd, James Boyd, William Colvin, and James Holdridge. A copy of the deed is at http://tinyurl.com/8fnr2 . An undated map of Raisin Township shows the cemetery as a separate parcel. It also shows four neighboring properties with the same four surnames: A portion of S 1/2 Section 10 owned by Robt Boyd A portion of S 1/2 Section 10 owned by James Boyd W 1/2 NW 1/4 Section 11 owned by William Colvin W 1/2 SW 1/4 Section 11 owned by Horace Holdridge Copy at http://tinyurl.com/8y4cz . I assume that Horace Holdridge might have inherited his parcel James Holdridge. A map of the township dated 1893 shows that Horace Holdridge still owned W 1/2 SW 1/4 Section 11, although other properties had changed hands. Copy at http://tinyurl.com/5kjjf . I assume that the undated map must have been draw sometime between 1844 and 1893. Besides the ownership changes noted above, the 1893 map shows a railroad (Warren R.R.) that wasn't present on the undated map. Neal McLain Brazoria, Texas [email protected]

Hi: I just wondered is this is the same school originally started by Laura Haviland? If so, you should be able to find many references to her life including a book she herself wrote. She was born 20 Dec 1808 and died 20 Apr 1898 in Lenawee Co. If you are not from around Michigan, you may not know that there is a "bigger than life" statue of her in front of the Adrian County Building. Sje is also one of the original Michigan woman honored at the Women's History Museum in Lansing (not sure of the exact name). Good hunting.
