I'm beginning to think that Charles probably had died before the census was taken, since his children were all scattered - at least those from his first marriage. Nothing regarding Charles was found in the Washtenaw county records beyond his second marriage there. Perhaps the only ones I am missing now from the census would be wife Nancy and their young daughter Mary. I'll also have to look into Sydney Reynolds and family to see if there might be some less obvious connection. I've also noticed a William H. Hoy in the area prior to Charles H. Hoy's arrival to the area. Charles did name a son William H., so perhaps there was some connection. I believe there may have been a widowed Mrs. Hoy in the 1840 census, but that doesn't give a lot to go on. Thanks again!

One of the Ohio Counties that gained territory was Fulton County and two or three more. So when Michigan became a state those townships changed both counties as well as where records were kept. How they were referred to also changed. It is very confusing - good hunting. Richard C. "Dick" Webber at [email protected]

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mFB.2ACE/2309.3 Message Board Post: I too am looking for the ancestors of a HOWARD family living in Lenawee Co. in 1850 & 1860. John W. HOWARD and Deborah Jane (POMEROY) with four sons. I have John's Civil War Pension file. In it he says he was born in Cincinnatti, OH in 1832, that he ran away from home after his father re-married upon the death of his father, and that his family was "always from Michigan". I finally found him in IL in the 1870 census, and in MO in 1880. Three of his sons names correspond to the sons of a Henry HOWARD of Kalamazoo Co. but ten years offset in ages. I have been unable to make any ties with other HOWARDS in Lenawee or other surrounding counties. I somehow believe that they came from NY state. Richard C. "Dick" Webber at [email protected]

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mFB.2ACE/2685.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I take it you have not heard of these books. Lucy Brainard is a decendent of Daniel Brainard of Haddam, Conn, He is believed to have been the first one of Brainard/Brainerd to come to America in 1641. Now information on him and dates differ with different things. But this book is about his decendents. He had (I think) 9 children and most all Brainard/Brainerd in America are somehow tied to him. Lucy Brainard is one of these decendents and lived in the 1800's. She devoted most of her life in doing the research and publishing of these books that were published in about 1908. Most information ends in about 1900 or just before but my grandfather is in it with his family. So if a person can go back with their line at least to 1880 or 1900 then it is possible to find their line in these books. I have however found missing people in our line that were not in the books. Some information on dates and all are not right so I have researched as much as possible to correct it, but it is ! a place to start when there is no other way of knowing especially when you get back past the 1850 census. There is no index of names to show the pages they are on so I have to go page by page to find them if they are there. That is why I say that it will be a few days before I can get back on this. If you want you can e-mail me direct. I did find in the 1820 census of Greene, Chenango co., NY that there was a Daniel Brainard.

    2. I have some information about these people which I have collected while looking for connections to Truman WOOD who married my ggg aunt Phebe HAVENS. I believe Truman connects to this Wood family but don't know how yet. William WOOD and Martin Luther WOOD were sons of Leander WOOD and Maria CURE. William married Sally Adeline DECKER daughter of Uriah DECKER, and Martin WOOD married Belle A. DECKER who could have been a sister of Sally/Addie. Let me know if you are interested in the rest of the information I have. I would be very interested in seeing some of the pictures if you have scanned them. Judith

    3. there is no indication of any Naturalization for John McCullough in book "Indexes to Naturalizations Lenawee County, MIchigan" This index covers to 1906, when Lenawee no longer did them, they went to a higher court. the actual books have been moved to the Archives of Michigan in Lansing, they are NOT held by the Lenawee County Clerk any longer. 3. Seeking any living descendants of Timothy Allen born ca 1787 , married Prudence Eddy, who came to Lenawee County ca 1847. Timothy came to the county from Ontario County, New York along with several sons, mainly Erasmus Darwin, John, Franklin and Thomas B. May also have had sons Marvin and Seymour. There is a brief bio for Timothy in the Lenawee Co history that describes him as a nephew of Ethan Allen, but that part isn't correct.
