(civil war) museum in Springfield, IL. I am researching an 1863 civil war diary of Francis A.(Asbury) Brainard, Company A, 17th Michigan Infantry. He was married to Mary A.(?) during and just after the war. They had 2 children, Emma, 1868 and Fred, 1873. Then married Carrie Nettie (Martin) around 1886(?) They had 4 children, Francis Waylon, 1888, Bernice, 1892, Jennie, 1894 and Annie, 1896. The diary was donated to our museum decades ago and was never transcribed until now. Would be interested in talking to any living descendants. I know Jennie E. died in 1976 in Tempe, AZ I also know that son, Francis Waylon had a son, Francis Waylon Jr. He had twins in 1925, William and Ruth. William died in 1990. I believe they were in the Muir, Ionia County area of MI. Any leads would be appreciated! PS, Francis father James spelled the name Brainerd

Surnames: Harris Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mFB.2ACE/2706.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Birth records for that time frame are closed to the public for privacy and identity theft reasons. step 1- Ask his family (if you haven't already). step 2- Look at Dean Harris's WWI draft registration card and/or military service record. It will show birthdate/birthplace, where he was living, his employer, closest relative, physical description, etc. This is near the middle of that decade and during the time his 3 oldest children were being born in Michigan. Hearing that the couple was married in Ithaca, Gratiot Co., the town north of Antha's home in Gratiot County, substantiates my belief that they probably lived near there until they moved to New York 1919-1920. Is it possible that Clinton "Cty" was thought to be "City" when it was actually the abbreviation for "County"? The "village of Clinton" in Lenawee Co. MI has never been called "Clinton City".

    3. No recorded marriages in Lenawee County before 1852, we had a courthouse fire. Even if there were marriages in 1851, they were not recording the names of parents on the marriage records at that time, I cannot remember the year that was required, but it was much later than this time frame. Good luck in your research. you could try this for deaths, maybe you will find something??? http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/pha/osr/gendisx/index.htm On 21 Mar 2006 12:34:23 -0700, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Cole;Rockwood;Sherman > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mFB.2ACE/2711 > > Message Board Post: > > Marriage of Marvin Cole and Abigail Rockwood Sherman (widow) approx 1851, > need her parents names & date if possible. I didn't included the parent information because I was hoping that Mich. had a searchable birth index indicating the place of birth. To the best of my knowledge Dean and Antha were married in Ithaca, Garatiot, Mich... As for the birth place for Fred I have one indication that it was Clinton City and a later a census that indicated he was born in Oklahoma. The only birth place I have for Florence is also Clinton City. Dean was a farm worker and the family moved a great deal, so where they lived at when the census was taken may not have been where they lived one or two years ago.
