The land was purchased in 1854 as being 2/8 in southern area of Section 30. There is a road there now called Johnson St. It looks to run east off of S. Woods St. If you live in this area, can you tell me if there is a old farm homestead or anything on Johnson St., probably on the north side toward the end of the street. Just wondering.

I requested and received a death certificate from the Lenawee County Clerk for my gg grandmother, Mary Ackley, who died in Adrian on July 29, 1898. Problem is, the copy I received was transcribed from the original and typewritten on a form, and I think the person who transcribed it didn't transcribe her father's last name correctly (some of the combinations of letters just don't make sense). Since I live in southern Illinois and can't get to Michigan any time soon, I was hoping someone who has a little experience reading old handwriting could look at the certificate in person and possibly decipher her father's last name. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Present residence, Washington, D.C. Michigan Death Index Ledger 147 Wheeler, James Death date: 22 Dec 1872 County: Lenawee (Not sure about this article - if it even fits into your family line) The Tecumseh Herald Tecumseh, Lenawee County, Michigan August 15, 1861 Issue Arrest of an Old Prisoner Constable Randall of Hudson arrested a young man named Erastus Wheeler on Tuesday last at that village, on a charge of assault with intent to kill, the crime having been committed near South Bend, tow years ago last January. A difficulty occurred between a brother-in-law of Wheeler and a man named Wm. Ruple. The case was tried before the court and the latter obtained a judgment against the former for $10,000. Wheeler thereupon was hired to kill Mr. Ruple. He tried it but only succeeded in severely wounding him. He was sentenced to State Prison for eight years, but after imprisoned for a short time, his lawyer obtained a new trial and confined in jail awaiting a new trial, he managed to escape. A reward of $100 was offered for his arrest, which will probably be awarded t Const. Randall and Deputy Sheriff Burtous, who took him to the Adrian jail. He was a member of the Adrian Cadets and went by the name of John E. TenEyck, in the company.
