    3. Hi: My husband has collateral relatives named Heydenberk/Hydenberk.who lived in Allegan Co, MI. Warren Heydenberk was born in Dakota Territory ca 1888 (32 in 1920) but married Lena Lee, born in Burt Co, Nebraska. Seems far away from Michigan, but Lena's ancestors were from Lenawee Co, Michigan, and she, her husband and children came back to Michigan although in Allegan Co. not to far from Lenawee. I took a look at the 1900 & 1910 census and your William C. with wife Anna M. are in Raisin Twp, Lenawee but with no children living with them. Apparently, William died between 1910 & 1920 as Anna M. is still living in Raisin Twp. in 1920 with only a young woman "boarder" living with her. In the 1910 census, William C. lists his father's birthplace as Holland and his mother's as Scotland whereas in 1900 his parents' are supposedly both born in New York State. Don't know if this gives you any help. You might be able to find an obituary for any family member which would help. As he was listed as a "farmer" a plat map could give you the exact place of his farm and his death should be recorded with the Register of Deeds in the county courthouse as well as in the Clerk's office. Good hunting. 3. We may not have marriage licenses, but we do have marriage records. Birth and death records were not required by the state of Michigan until 1867, that is very true. BUT, counties were supposed to start recording marriages right from the begining of the county (or close to). Lenawee County had marriage records, but we also had a courthouse fire in 1852. *Therefor our marriages start in 1852. * now, that said, those early marriages don't have a lot of data in them, name of groom, bride, who married them, when, where and witnesses. Sometimes we get ages too. Those early marriages are on microfilm at the Library of Michigan in Lansing and the original book is still in use at the Lenawee County Court house in Adrian. Good luck in your research. 3. Hi: There were no marriage licenses issued in Michigan until the late 1860's. You have several options, however, and may or may not find an answer. Churches usually recorded marriages and many church records have been copied. Sometimes in a county history, marriage dates will be mentioned. Obituaries also often contain a marriage date. The 1900 and 1910 censuses give the number of years married. Hope this helps. There are no vital records in Lenawee before 1852, that is the earliest marriage, as there was a courthouse fire that year and the marriage records prior to the fire were lost. Birth and death records start in 1867, were not mandated by the state before that date. So, if they were married in Lenawee, there will be no record of it, sorry to say. County was not founded till 1824, do you have them on the census here before 1850? Tecumseh also has no marriage records before 1852, UNLESS a church record.
