Surnames: Gibbs Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mFB.2ACE/2785 Message Board Post: Could someone clarify for me whether a town called Madison existed in the early 1830's? I have an obituary for my gggrandfather John D. Gibbs which states he traveled from Cooperstown, Otsego County, New York to Madison, Michigan about 1833. There he engaged in the printing trade and about 1836 started for Wisconsin. I would appreciate any links which might locate Madison and give a history of the area. Thank you.

    1. Mailing list changes

    3. Lenawee Listers: The software running the mailing lists at RootsWeb is being changed between now and the end of August. For those list members who are subscribed both in Digest Mode and in List Mode with the same address -- if you want to continue to receive the list in DIGEST MODE, you will need to subscribe again with a different email address than what you are subscribed to currently. Many ISPs offer multiple accounts to its customers and there are the "free" services such as Yahoo, MSN, etc. which offer accounts (free of charge), as well. The Lenawee Co list is scheduled for migration on Wednesday, August 23 - Lists J-L While the "migration" of the lists to a new server should process uneventfully for listmembers, there are a few things that may change: 1. AOL users (and possibly some other ISPs), please check your spam folders, and, if you find list mail held as spam, you will need to be sure to click the *THIS IS NOT SPAM* link to send the list mail to your current mailbox. This will "train" the system to understand that mail from this new server is not spam. 2. If you are subscribed to both List & Digest mail modes of this list, the new system is not set up to send both to the same email address. If you want to be subscribed in both modes (many subscribe to both -- regular mail mode to read and delete and digest to file and save), it will be necessary to use another email address for your digest mail 3. The list's email address will now be [email protected] 4. Digest subscribers may notice some changes to the list digests. New instructions will be added to the digests -- please read them. In addition, the digest volume and issue number may be different (out of sequence) from what you had been receiving. 5. If you use email headers to filter list mail to special folders, you will probably need to tweak your filters once the new system begins. 6. The Rootsweb Message Board for Lenawee Co is gatewayed to the Mail list; in other words, queries on the Message board are also sent to the mail list. There might possibly be some interference with that aspect for a day or two, so be patient. 7. If you run into any unusual or confusing occurrences with mail from this list that could possibly be related to the changeover, let me know. Mary Teeter List Administrator for the MILENAWE mailing list at RootsWeb.com.

Surnames: WESLEY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mFB.2ACE/2708.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Had to get out of Rootsweb and into my F T M to get the information for you. Joseph G. Wesley came to US about 1856 from (we think) Birmingham, Eng.) He settled somewhere in Ill. for a few years but then came to Adrian. He was a tailor & went into business with his 2 sons Albert & Charles. They first ran a tailor shop, later developed a large clothing store, shoe store & dry goods store. The 2 sons carried along this business until about 1925 when they both retired. We feel the attraction in Adrian was my great-great-grandfather Rev. John Wesley (we have the diary of his trip from Birmingham to New York City in Sept. 1856. Rev. Wesley was a circuit rider for the church in Adrian. He was in many nearby towns including Flint, North Branch & is buried in Detroit. I went to Adrian to seek this other side of the family and have found the relatives in Florida. Thanks for sharing. Would you mindtaking a picture of the hook with the name on it for me? Thank you

Now I have two place to possibly donate the hook. On Tuesday my mom and I formally signed applications to join the Lucy Wolcott Barnum Adrian Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In about 1909, the daughter of Governor Crossweell donated her house, the one the govenor lived in, to the DAR chapter there. It is furnished wiall all period furniture and a beautiful place. The Museum you refer to and the DAR house on Broad Street, just around the corner from the Museum are beautiful structures. As a coincidence, I retired 4 years ago yesterday. I drove from Washtenaw Co, down to Adrian every day and passed both buildings, on my way to and from work. Thanks again!!!!! Karen Jenter Michigan

Maumee. They are not in business anymore. there is a picture of it taken around 1910 in the book :Lenawee Reflections: I bought this book at the museum there and then walked over to Maumee Street to see the actual bldg. I bet they would love to have you donate your hook to their museum and have it marked from the wesley & Son Store. They had a lot of different merchandise. The family came from England to Adrian and made suits. I have a lot of info on this WESLEY family and most are buried there at the cemetery but living relatives are living outside Michigan. I am related but need to refer to my F T M for details. I am trying to find old records at Adrian College but they had a flood and only some were saved. In trying to find out if records were moved to Methodist church in Detroit. guess I better start calling again. Take good care of that hook.........wesleys were good people.

    3. try the Gravestones of Lenawee County done by Adrian DAR ca 1930-40 era. I believe available at LDS FHC, but could be wrong about that. It is a private cemetery. here is some data from LEnawee county genweb pages: *Name: Sherman Farm (Farm)-#94 Location: West of North Rollin Hwy on Raymond Road (Sec. 17) Contact: Desc: On private property Visited: Published: Gravestone Records of Lenawee County, Michigan by Harriet Cole Bowen Vol 2; 6 recorded 1923; 1973 * ** *find that and more at: http://www.geocities.com/lenaweemi/cemetery2.html#Rollin* ** *Hope that helps ya some,* ** *Cheers, Carol* On 30 Jul 2006 20:35:24 -0600, [email protected] < [email protected]> wrote: > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Sherman > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mFB.2ACE/2780 > > Message Board Post: > > I am looking for any information on who is burried in the Sherman Cemetery > in Rollin. > Thank you for any assistance. > >
