WALLACE, 63, chairman of the board of Wallace-Blakeslee, Inc. advertising agency here, died of a heart attack Sunday morning in his home on the Thornapple River at Ada. Mr. Wallace went into the advertising agency business here in 1936 with one girl as his staff. He was joined by Marvin C. Lindeman in 1940 and the company reorganized as Wallace-Lindeman, Inc. The corporation became Wallace-Blakeslee, Inc. in 1957 after C. Scott Blakeslee became a partner and now employes 32. Mr. Wallace was born in Ypsilanti, coming to Grand Rapids at the age of three. He was a graduate of South High School and attended Dartmouth College. Before forming his advertising agency he was a director and advertising manager of the BERKEY & GAY FURNITURE CO. which was owned by his family. " The profit of a business is the only security of the employes." was a characteristic expression of Mr. Wallace. He emphasized a combination of prestige, image-building and hard sell. Known as a gourmet, he was the author of "A Taste for Adventure" dealing with unusual foods and memorable meals in many places. He had been an editorial writer on the old Grand Rapids News. After moving up to chairman of the board of Wallace-Blakeslee, Inc. last February, Mr. Wallace continued to take an active interest in the business. Surviving are his wife, the former FRANCES VanDEVEN of Grand Rapids; two sons, DAVID A. WALLACE, who succeeded his father as president of the agency and DANIEL B. WALLACE, now secretary-treasurer. Private services for the immediate family only were held Monday afternoon.
