He was 81. Mr. Leonard was born in Grand Rapids Dec. 25, 1874, the son of CHARLES H. and EMMA CARR LEONARD. He attended Grand Rapids High School and received his electrical degree from Purdue University in 1895. In 1897, he was married to WILLIE STANSBURY, whom he met at Purdue. She died in 1938. GENERAL MANAGER Mr. Leonard was general manager of LEONARD REFRIGERATOR COMPANY, which was founded by his father, until its sale to Nash-Kelvinator Corporation in 1926. He later became President of H. LEONARD AND SONS, which was Grand Rapids' oldest business establishment at the time the corporation was dissolved in 1952. The latter concern was started as a grocery near Campau Square in 1844 by Mr. Leonard's grandfather, HEMAN LEONARD. Mr. Leonard served as City Commissioner from the Third Ward from 1934 until 1942. He was a member of the board of the Grand Rapids Community Chest from 1928 to 1936, and had served as Chairman of its budget committee. He was a lifelong member of Fountain Street Baptist Church and was President of its Board of Trustees for many years. He was also a member of the Peninsular Club, Kent Country Club and the Grand Rapids Rotary. Surviving are his wife, SUSAN; two daughters, MRS. SIEGEL W. JUDD of Grand Rapids and MRS. JULIAN B. HATTON SR. of Grand Haven; one son, CHARLES S. of Chicago, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Metcalf Chapel, Dr. Duncan E. Littlefair of Fountain Street Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Street Cemetery.
