A native of Lowell, Michigan, Hal was the son of the late Erwin Elston and Bessie Irene Blakeman Forward. He was preceded in death by a brother, Erwin Elston Forward, Jr., of Three Rivers, Michigan. Mr. Forward is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alta Jane Francoise Forward; son, Mike Forward and wife, Sylvia; son, Jim Forward and wife, Sue; grandchildren, Tom Forward and wife Dawn, Kris Forward and wife Bethany, all of Asheville; and Kelly Forward, of Charleston, South Carolina; and great-grandchildren Carson and Avery. Hal attended George Washington University and was a Marine Corps veteran of WW II. He was a retired Deputy Quartermaster General of the Marine Corps and was a member of both the Marine Corps Association and the Retired Officers Association. Aside from his lifelong commitment to the Marine Corps, Hal will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and heartfelt devotion to hi! s family. He will be deeply missed by many. Military honors were provided by Chaplain Richard Rockwell and the Asheville High School Marine JROTC Unit at 2:00 PM Monday, April 6, at the NC State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
