Chester was the adopted son of William A. Johnson and Charlotte "Lottie" Johnson-Johnson--children of Barton Johnson and Nelson Johnson, respectively. Chester's childhood was spent in rural Rockford and Cedar Springs. He married a woman named Dorothy and had a son, also named Chester. I believe Chester, Sr. also spent time in Cuba in the 1920s and may have settled in Florida--possibly the Tampa area. Conflicting records show Chester's middle initial I. or B.
