Born Feb. 12, 1919, in Romania, he was 82. Irod worked in Romania for the Institute of Geophysics as a technician. After his retirement, he came to the United States in 1990 where he settled in Grand Rapids, Mich. He came to Davis in 1994 to be near family members. He had lived in Davis ever since. He enjoyed drafting and loved to invent mechanical items. He was a great handyman who enjoyed fixing things. He was described by his family as "a good grandfather who was very devoted to his family." Irod is survived by his wife, Zahara Irod of Davis, and his children, Gerald Whitehawk of Phoenix, and Catalin Irod and his wife, Ileana, of Davis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vasile "Sile" Irod and Duica Irod. A funeral was held today at noon at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial was scheduled to follow.
