A 21 year old Wyoming man was among the 44 sailors and marines killed when a launch capsized in the harbor of Barcelona, Spain, on Monday (Jan 17, 1977). Seaman Randy Paul Falls lived in the Grand Rapids area all his life. He was working as a radio man in the amphibious ship U.S.S. Trenton at the time of the accident. Falls, a 1973 graduate of Godwin High School, worked at a car dealership until he enlisted in the Navy in August 1975. He is survived by his widow, Violet; his mother, Delores Foote; three brothers and a sister. All live in Grand Rapids. Funeral services were incomplete pending the arrival of Fall’s body from Spain.
