    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Since the Flipse being Dutch was a revelation to me, I had to look that up and yes they were Dutch. I remember a little old lady who lived on Alpine Ave in a yellow house covered in gingerbred with a yellow picket fence and dark green shades. She had never married and had lived there all her life. There was quite a write up in the GR press when she died a few years ago. Her grandfather had built the house. I think she was the last in her immediate family. So I looked up the census and found no Cornelius Flipse but did find the Flipse family for that yellow house: 1147 Alpine Ave NW 1930 census Lawrence Flipse 60 owner worth $5000 b. Neth carpenter parents b. France immigrated 1880 Marjorie wife 59 b. Neth par b. Neth Jack son 25 S, Jean dau 23 S, Connie dau 20 S. all born Michigan I think Jean was the old lady. 1920 Census Laurence 60 immi 1886 Nat 1891 Holland par b. Hollnad carpenter Margie wife 53 immi 1885 b. Holland par b. Holland Andrew son 26 b. MI Jennie dau 23 b. Mi Jacob son 18 b. MI Cornelia dau 12 b. MI There are two more Flipse families: Peter b. Holland and Abraham b. Holland who also has a dau named Cornelia I have to admit I would have never guessed that Flipse was Dutch. Swierenga has an immigration/emmigration list that was published. The GRPL has a copy. If it's on line I don't know where. I wonder, could Flipse be Friesian?
