Mr. Gries was born May 27, 1921 in Dorr, Michigan. He was united in marriage to Gloria A. Hoffman on August 9, 1954, in LaGrange, Ind. Surviving besides the wife are: 2 sons, John M. Jr. and Francis, both at home; 3 brothers, Joseph of Dorr, Michigan, Edward of Battle Creek, Frank of Burnips; 4 sisters, Mrs. Charles Stoner of Wayland, Mrs. Gerlad Walsh of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Edward Marklevitz of Kalamazoo, Mrs. Casmir Rakowski of Wayland. Funeral services 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Vincent Catholic Church, Elkhart, Ind., Rev. E. B. Carsten officiating. Burial in Resurection Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
