The two-seat, single-engined aircraft left Hastings Airport in Barry County at 5 p.m. Sunday for a night flight training sesson (sic). The craft carried four and a half hours worth of fuel for the one hour training flight. The pilot, Gorden Griffen, 47, of Ken(t)wood, apparently died instantly. The cause was under investigation. The wreckage was found by authorities in a field near the Ionia-Montcalm county line about 60 miles northeast of Hastings.
