According to the population register he emigrated to Grand Rapids on 12 November 1906,possibly to live with his son Cornelis de Laat, born 6 March 1878 in Kloetinge. Cornelis de Laat was married to Martina Sanderse. They had one daughter,Pieternella Paulina de Laat, born 12 December 1896 in Goes, when they emigrated to Grand Rapids. This couple arrived on Ellis Island on 8 May 1898. The ships manifest says they went to see their uncle Hubertus Verdonk. Questions: Aarnout, when did he arrive in Grand Rapids ? when did he die ? where's he burried ? Cornelis and Martina, what happened to them ? did they have more children ? when did they die ? where are they burried ? are there obits ? Pieternella Paulina, what happened with her ? did she get married ? children ? when did she die ? where is she burried? is there an obit ? I know there are/were a lot of de Laats but most of them originate from Brabant and not Zeeland. Hope someone can / is willing to help me. Merry Cristmas and a healty and peaceful 2007 Rian in the Netherlands

Maybe someone else can. Its only the index but you can order online. $5 each. There's a cemetery index at this site too but it is by cemetery then alpha order. So if they were protestant you might try Garfield Park or Restlawn. If Catholic, you might try Resurection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1900 Census City of Grand Rapids Ward 10 Kent Co, MI Page 223 409 (old number) (the street is hard to read so the next page gives Bates and Fifth which would be Franklin Street today - this neighborhood is now predominately Black. The closest public cemetery is Woodlawn but with all the budget cuts, there is only one employee capable of looking up old records and she is responsible for all new burials at all the public cemeteries today so you might want to just write the public library which used to have a county wide alpha index, not by cemetery, on index cards that they would look up for free. Don't know if they still do.
