Ron, Grand Rapids has ALWAYS been in Kent County (since the 1830's). Ontonagon county is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan- nowhere near Kent County. I do believe I saw them on the same census microfilm roll for 1840(?) or 1850(?), but that occurred only because the national archives chose to put them together. I hope this helps you.
