MURPHY, Termed Suicide An all-night search by his family ended early Sunday with the discovery of the body of Frederick A. MURPHY, 16, of 2083 Three Mile rd., NE, hanging from a tree limb about a mile south of his home. Dr. William H. VanderPloeg, medical examiner, termed the death a suicide but said no reason could be ascribed for the youth's action. Sheriff's deputies said the youth's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. MURPHY, reported Frederick suffered severe headaches Saturday and slept most of the day. He left home about 6 p.m., saying nothing of his destination. The search was begun shortly after dark and his sister, Miss Delores MURPHY, discovered the body about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The youth was a lifelong Kent county resident and a student at Creston High School. Besides his parents and sister, he leaves four other sisters, Mrs. Clarence MOYER, Mrs. Calvin MORRISON, Miss Betty Jean and Miss Patricia MURPHY; five brothers, Cpl. Robert, with the army in Korea; Charles, Ronald, William and Harold, and his grandmother, Mrs. Veronica BLAKESLEE, all of Grand Rapids. The body is at the Van Strien-Alman mortuary. THE GRAND RAPIDS HERALD, Grand Rapids, Mich., Mon., May 26, 1952, Sec. 2, Pg. 13, Col. 5, Art. 3 YOUTH, 16, TAKES OWN LIFE HERE After an all-night search, members of his family Sunday morning found the body of Frederick A. MURPHY, 16, hanging from a tree in a woods a short distance south of his residence at 2083 Three Mile Rd., NE. Dr. William H. Vander Ploeg, Kent County Medical Examiner, and Deputy Sheriff Donald DeBier investigated. They said the youth took his own life. ILL SATURDAY The youth was ill Saturday and stayed in his room, according to the Medical Examiner. Members of the family noticed he had left his room Saturday about 7 p.m., but thought he had gone out to play. Later in the evening, the search started, the Medical Examiner said. Authorities were unable to assign a reason for the boy's act. The youth lived in Kent County all his life and attended Creston High School. A brother, Cpl. Robert MURPHY, is serving with the Army in Korea. FIVE SISTERS In addition to the brother, the youth is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. MURPHY; five sisters, Mrs. Clarence MOYER, Betty Jean MURPHY, Mrs. Calvin MORRISON, Delores MURPHY and Patricia MURPHY; four more brothers, Charles, Ronald, William and Harold MURPHY; and his grandmother, Mrs. Veronica BLAKESLEE, all of Grand Rapids. The body was taken to the Van Strien-Alman Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Robert MURPHY of the U.S. Army in Korea; his grandmother, Mrs. Veronica BLAKESLEE of Grand Rapids. Frederick reposes at the VanStrien-Alman Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements.
