Holman & Co., Philadelphia Copyright: 1876 Description: Huge Family Bible bound in leather with a brass clasp. All edges are gilt, end papers are marbled, raised bands and gilt lettering on the spine. There are numerous engravings and maps, for which this Bible has won awards for beautiful illustrations. The marriages, births and deaths of the William Henry Tibbs family have been entered here. Other surnames mentioned are: Hoag; Esler; Hess; Smythe; Brown; Furness; Hopkins. Included with the Bible are a Certificate of Baptism dated 1883, and a certificate given for a donation to the Michigan Masonic Home Association in 1890. This Bible was found at an estate sale in Grand Rapids, MI, (Kent County), where Wm H Tibbs and his wife Kate Hoag Tibbs are buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Some other cities mentioned in the record are Buffalo, NY, Allegheny, PA. Condition: The front cover and the pages of the Table of Contents are detached. The leather is quite scuffed and the corners are worn through. The brass clasp is in good condition and the rest of the binding is tight.
