SCHMIDT, 88, Germany Native, Passes Mrs. Elizabeth M. SCHMIDT, 88, wife of the late Matthew S. SCHMIDT, founder of the SCHMIDT Monument Co., died Monday at her home, 1521 Sibley st. NW, following a long illness. Mrs. SCHMIDT, a native of Westphalia, Germany, came here 76 years ago. She was a a member of St. Mary's church, its Altar society and Parent - Teacher association. Her husband died in 1923. Surviving are three sons, Robert A., Frank W. and Vincent A. SCHMIDT; two daughters, Mrs. Louis W. KIRCHHOFF and Miss Florence SCHMIDT; a brother, Joseph BERLES, all of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Alt chapel until Thursday when it will be taken to St. Mary's church for services at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery. SCHMIDT, aged 88, widow of Matthew Schmidt, passed away Monday morning at the family home, 1521 Sibley st., NW, after a lingering illness. She is survived by three sons, Robert A., Frank W., and Vincent A. SCHMIDT; two daughters, Mrs. Louis W. KIRCHHOFF and Miss Florence SCHMIDT; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph BERLES. Funeral Mass will be Thursday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Mary's church. Interment Mt. Calvary cemetery. Mrs. SCHMIDT reposes at the Alt Mortuary where the Altar society, the PTA and friends will recite the Rosary Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock.
