Three of the other victims were injured severely. John L. PETTIT, 69, of 342 Franklin-st., S.E., was killed outright. Coroner Paul W. BLOXSOM said he suffered a skull fracture, fractures of both legs, neck fracture and rib fractures. He was riding in a car operated by Harry NYENBRINK, 38, of 1509 Godfrey-av., S.W., who was driving home with three co-workers from the Baker Furniture Co., of Holland. NYENBRINK suffered rib fractures. Also in the NYENBRINK car were Frederick KRAUSS, 66, who is in critical condition with a possible skull fracture and a right leg fracture, and Karop ARZOOMIAN, 67, of 1009 Front-av., N.W., who suffered a right leg fracture and chest injuries. All are in St. Mary's hospital. Three in Second Car Police Chief Peter RINKEVICH of Grandville and Deputy Andrew VAN DUINEN said the second car was driven by Melvin NEWHOUSE, 28, of Grandville, who is in St. Mary's hospital. He has a leg fracture and severe head injuries. Riding with NEWHOUSE were Graham E. MYERS, 35, of 1702 Buchanan-av., S.W., who suffered facial lacerations and rib fractures. and Harold POOLE, 52, 1318 Maude-av., N.E., who was bruised and cut severely. Both were treated at St. Mary's. Witnesses told investigators both cars spun on the icy pavement after impact, and both were damaged badly. Surviving Mr. PETTIT are the widow, Mary [SMITH BROCKWAY]; two daughters, Mrs. George BROCKWAY and Mrs. Don BROCKWAY, both of Grand Rapids; a son Don [Leo] in the army, and seven grandchildren. The body is at Greenhoe's mortuary, where friends will gather at 8:30 Friday night to recite the rosary. Funeral services will be held in St. Andrew's cathedral Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn. One man was killed and five others were injured, two critically, in a two-car collision at an icy intersection at M-21 and Holly st., S.W., in Wyoming township at 6:55 Wednesday evening. All were treated at St. Mary's hospital. John PETTIT, 69, of 342 Franklin st. S.E., lost his life in the accident. Dr. Paul W. BLOXSOM, coroner, said he suffered a broken neck, crushed chest, two leg fractures and a possible fractured skull. Witnesses said he was instantly killed. Critically injured were Kerope ARZOOMIAN, about 70, of 1009 Front ave., N.W., and Frederick KRAUSE, 1611 Jefferson ave., S.E. ARZOOMIAN, who sustained fractured ribs and a thigh injury, was rushed immediately into an oxygen tent. KRAUSE has a fractured leg and head injuries and was given blood transfusions. Chief of Police Peter RINKEVICH of Grandville and Deputy Sheriff Andrew VAN DUINEN said the car in which Mr. PETTIT was a passenger was driven by Harry NYENBRINK, 38, of 1509 Godfrey ave., S.W. NYENBRINK has a fractured ankle and scalp lacerations. Also in the NYENBRINK car were ARZOOMIAN and KRAUSE, it was reported. The second car was operated by Graham E. MEYERS, 35, of 1702 Buchanan ave., S.W., officers said. He has fractured ribs and several face lacerations. Melvin NEWHOUSE, 26 of Grandville and Harold POOLE, 52, 1318 Maude ave., N.E., passengers in MEYERS' car were treated for lacerations and bruises and possible fractures. Witnesses reported that both cars spun dizzily in the street after the impact and that both were completely demolished. The injured men were taken to the hospital by the Independent and Sullivan ambulances. Mr. PETTIT leaves his widow, Mary [SMITH BROCKWAY]; two daughters, Mrs. George BROCKWAY and Mrs. Don BROCKWAY, both of Grand Rapids; a son, Leo PETTIT, with the army, and seven grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, pending word from the son. The body is at Greenhoe's.
