Mrs. Bertha MURPHY of 2083 Three-Mile Rd., NE., had been ill for several months and went into a coma Saturday morning, not regaining consciousness before her death at her home Tuesday morning. She was 51 years. old. Her son, Frederick A. MURPHY, was found hanging from a tree in a woods a short distance south of the family residence Sunday morning after members of the family had conducted an all-night search for him. Officials said the boy took his own life. YOUTH ILL The youth had been ill Saturday and stayed in his room until 7 p.m. when he disappeared. Mrs. MURPHY knew nothing of the boy's death, the family said. Mrs. MURPHY is survived by her husband, Edward D., five daughters, Mrs. Clarence MOYER, Betty Jean MURPHY, Mrs. Calvin MORRISON, Delores MURPHY and Patricia MURPHY; five sons, Charles, Cpl. Robert MURPHY, serving with the Army in Korea [Ronald, William, Harold]; two sisters, Mrs. Flossie HOWE and Mrs. Fred KRUEGER, and four brothers, George, Fred, Burt and Gerald CUMMINGS of Grand Rapids. Frederick's funeral was postponed Tuesday and double services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Van Strien-Alman Funeral Home, Rev. Henry Kik officiating. Burial will be in Fairplains Cemetery. Pg. 17, Col. 6, Obit. 5 MURPHY - Mrs. Bertha MURPHY, aged 51, passed away Tuesday morning at her home, 2083 Three Mile Rd., NE. She is survived by her husband, Edward W.; five daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Geraldine) MOYER, Betty Jean MURPHY, Mrs. Calvin (Marie) MORRISON, Delores and Patricia MURPHY; five sons, Charles, Ronald, William and Harold MURPHY, all of Grand Rapids, and Cpl. Robert MURPHY of the United States Army in Korea; two sisters, Mrs. Flossie HOWE and Mrs. Fred (Ethel) KRUEGER, and four brothers, George, Fred, Burt and Gerald CUMMINGS of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the VanStrien - Alman Funeral Home, where she reposes, Rev. Henry Kik officiating. Interment Fairplains Cemetery.
