Both these auctions will end Sunday, August 20th, 2006, in the evening. Other NELLIST and ALLIED family photographs will be posted in the days and weeks ahead. These came from a Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan area estate over 35 years ago. CARTES DE VISITE PHOTOGRAPH, PRODHAM (1812-1853) AND ALICE (JACKSON) NELLIST POPE (1813-1898) - Orleans County, New York and Kent County, Michigan, c. 1850 (probably made from a daguerreotype original) • PHOTOGRAPH identified on the reverse, "Prodham and Alice Nellist, Daughter Martha J. was Fay's grandmother" [Martha was actually a daughter-in-law, wife of son William P. Nellist]. I have another photograph of Alice Jackson Nellist Pope as an old woman, taken in Ada, Mich. Using this information as my departure point, I found the following: • In Ancestry.com, PRODDOM NELLIST, b. 12 Sept. 1811, Stainsacre [England] - d. 11 May 1853, Medina [Orleans Co.], NY. , married ALICE JACKSON, b. 27 Apr. 1814 - d. 7 Jan. 1898. They had three children: Henry Nellist, b. 16 Mar. 1831, England; William P. Nellist, b. 7 Oct. 1834; and George J. Nellist, b. 28 July 1839. Proddom Nellist's parents are given as John Nellist and Mary Awmack. • In the 1850 Census of the Town of Ridgeway, Orleans County, New York, PAADDAN NELLIS, 38, and ALEY NELLIS, 38, are listed with their children, Mary, 20 [Mary is listed as a "male" and probably should be Henry]; William, 16 and George, 12. Paaddan is a farmer. Mary [or Henry] was born in England, but William was born in New York, suggesting they arrived in this country between 1830-1834. • The MILLVILLE CEMETERY in Shelby, Orleans County, NY, has a burial for PRODDAN NELLIST, b. 11 Dec. 1812 - d. 23 May 1853; husband of ALICE JACKSON; son of JOHN NELLIST & MARY AWMACK. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyorlean/millvn.htm • In the 1860 Census of the Town of Shelby, Orleans County, New York, ALLICE POPE, 47, is the wife of Nathan Pope, 57. Nathan is a Sawyer and was born in Maine. • In the 1870 Census of Subdivision No. 46 Somerset, Niagara County, New York, ALICE POPE, 57, is living with HENRY NELLIS, 49, and his wife, Phebe, 48, and their children, Ida, 6, and Christopher, 3. • In the 1880 Census of Paris Township, Kent County, Michigan, ALICE N. POPE, 67 (Widowed Mother) is living with her son, WILLIAM P. NELLIST, 46, and William's wife, MARTHA J., 43, and their children, Alice E., 13, and Charles H., 10. William is a farmer. • ALICE NELLIST POPE, b. 28 Apr. 1813 - d. 7 Jan. 1898 is shown buried in ADA CEMETERY, in Ada, Kent County, MI, along with her son, William P.
