This clears up some of the mystery. I must need to get a death certificate for Amy. Glen was half-brother to Walter. I'll have to see where Ida Hawkins was possibly a sister to Amy. I had just found out that Alphonzo was married the second time, from a former neighbor in Michigan. As you noticed, not all the info meshes. But most all of it is right. My Aunt will be surprised to find tht G'pa lead such an interesting life. i really was stumped on his parents. All I had was his mother's state of birth. I would like to have any other bits that you found, if you don't mind. My e-mail address is: laureen@windstream.net. It might be easier. Thank you again.... It is not perfect, but maybe you can make it work being more familiar with the family. If you send me your email, I can send you the attachements. Alphonso V. Stevens married Amy Hawkins December 24, 1872 in Livingston County, MI. The record says he was born in Dexter (Washtenaw Co.) Michigan. Witnesses were Royal Stevens and Ida Hawkins. The 1850 census for Washetenaw Co. has this family: Herny Stephens age 36 born NY, wife Melissa D. 36 born VT, Royal H. 9 born MI, Sarah C. 7 born MI, Emily 4 born MI, and Alfonzo 3 born MI. So this has Alfonzo as a brother to Royal who was a witness at the wedding. Then there is this second marraige. Alphonzo Stevins(? hard to read) to Wealthy Mosher on January 25, 1883 in Tompkins, Ingham County, MI. Now this one gives his birthplace as Stockbridge which is Ingham, so it might not be him, but interestingly enough Ida Hawkins is listed as a witness to this marriage and his age is right. Then there is THIS marriage. Alphonso Stevens to Ella J. Burcham on February 7, 1906 in Ingham County. Witnesses Glen Stevens and Blanche Bercham. Now for this one it lists his parents as Henry Stevens and Melissa Stevens which matches the 1850 census. It also says he was married twice before which would work with the date from the first two marriages. However, his age is given as 51 and that doesn't mesh. I did find some possible 1860 and 1870 census, but none with Henry and Melissa together and one with the first names only as initials. None of them make me think they are a perfect match, but I can send them along. There is a birth record for a Clarence B. Stevens in Stockbridge, Ingham County on November 1, 1875 with parents Alphonso and Mary Stevens....and a death record for Clarence V. Stevens in Stockbridge, Ingham County on March 8, 1876 with parents Alphonso S. Stevens and Amy A. Stevens. There is a marriage record for a Glen Stevens (same name as witness to Alfonso's third marriage) in 1908 Ingham County and it states his parents are Alfonso Stevens and ?althy Parker. Found birth and marriage record for Flora. Found marriage record for Walter. I have the 1900 census in Calhoun County for an A.V. Stevens age 51 with wife Wealthy who have been married for 17 years with one child, also listed is Walter Stevens age 18 born February 1882 and Glen age 12 born October 1887. I am going to stop there. Let me know what you think...like I said, I don't think it's perfect, but a lot of overlapping names and such. I don't really know if the 1926 obit could be Niels or not. Probably not. I don't know how much info you are able to see, but Niels had children Rebecca, Blanche, Helen, Elfinda, John. Niels lived in Montcalm County and suffered an arm injury in a farm accident. After his wife Johanna died, lore tells that he "lost his mind" a bit. Probably Alzheimers. He had two children in Kent County: John Carl Andreasen and Rebecca Rozema (Andreasen). I though perhaps one of them cared for him until his death. Maybe I should also check State Hospitals in Kalamazoo or Traverse City? I appreciate your help! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
