I have search for a common given name only (no surname) and find nothing for 1893 in Kent County. Anyone know if this is a problem with scanning missing something, or a problem from the filming missing Kent Co., or if the records simply do not exist? I know from other sources the person died in Kent in 1893. I'm pretty sure it is not just a mispelling of the name since I have looked for "john" or "anna" 1890-1899 and none were in Kent - which I find hard to believe. "The Passing of the Gael" p. 289 (published in St. Patrick's R. C. Parish, Parnell Michigan) says that they emigrated in 1843 to New York State. In 1847 they came to eastern Michigan and overland to Grattan in the early 1850s (research below calls this timetable into question). Reference also to "St. Patrick's Parish, Parnell, Michigan 1844-1994", published 1996. Page 90 "Ann Abraham (1822-1883) married Martin Morrissey (1820-1891) of Grattan Township. They raised their family in Grattan and then retired to Grand Rapids" (Township). Martin Morrissey (Morasy/ Morrisey/ Morrissy) lived & probably married in Monroe County NY before 1855, his son James was born there. On the 1855 New York State Census they are in the Town of Murray, Orleans County NY. Martin's siblings: Joseph, James, Michael {Gerard Morrisey's ancestor} & Ann Morrissey Bookey do not show on the 1855 census for Orleans County NY but are arriving in that era. Several Doyle families are in close proximity to the Morrisseys and Bookeys in the Town of Gaines, Orleans County NY, believed to be relatives. Doyle families from County Wexford, Ireland also found in Grattan, Michigan. Children: James 1853-1922 (never married); Mary Ann (born c. 1857 in Orleans County NY- 1928) married John Ryan; Joseph abt. 1858 in Michigan-1937 married Margaret Tierney & then Delia Hyland; Lucy Ellen 1862-1930 married James J. This has been a family mystery for years. It took a DNA test to confirm we had the right John Olin! Per the family history by Warren Olin, just after John was born (with in the year), Ida married George at the age of 15. I don't know if Warren has Ida's age wrong or if the census is wrong. We are still trying to find out when and where Frank died. We don't believe he married but there is no death record for him in Kent County. John, Sr. remarried just before his son John married Eliza Pangborn White. Seems both couples moved from Solon Township to Farwell, MI, just north and east of Solon. John, Sr. passed in Farwell, about a year after he remarried. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am not related...that I know of, but always like a good mystery! Abbie Irene Myers is listed as marrying Fred Leonard Winters. She is 29, born about 1872, a resident of Charlotte, Michigan parents George Myers and Ida Olin. They were married March 21, 1901 in Charlotte. Witnsses Mrs. Clement Bliss and Mrs. George Moll. I bet the informant Allie was her daughter (like you said) Alta that was listed in the 1880 census with Andrew, Ida, and Abbie. The son John that I see in the 1870 census is five, so Ida would have been 12 or so when he was born. Probably not her son....I can't find a birth record for John...the records start in 1867...figures, he was born too soon. Well, glad that all helped. Let me know if you have another mystery, or want any of the "papers" I found. Laura Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She passed away October 25th, 1917 in Eaton County, Charlotte, MI. Her parents, John Olin and Rosanna Whitehead, are listed on the death cert. She is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. For the moment, I'm guessing that it's her daughter that was the informant - Allie Novll of Los Angeles, CA.
