WATSON, 90, widely known in earlier years as a leader in the flour and feed business in Grand Rapids. He was founder of the WATSON & HIGGINS MILLING CO., 506 Second-st., N.W., of which he was president from its formation in 1904 until a few years ago. He died Sunday in Bradenton, Fla. Mr. Watson retired from active full-time participation in the business in 1917 and had made his home in Bradenton since then. He went to Bradenton a year after his firt wife died and his three sons entered military service in World war I. It was his custom to return to Grand Rapids each summer until about five years ago. Born in Pontiac, Mr. Watson came to this vicinity when he was a young man and worked in a number of mills nearby, finally entering partnership with Marcus A. Frost in the WATSON & FROST flour and feed business then on Grandville-av. and later on Bridge-st., where the mill was destroyed by fire, and then on Second-st., where it was damaged by the floods of 1904. The next year the WATSON & HIGGINS CO. was formed. Mr. Watson also was associated with Mr. Frost, former city treasurer, in the FROST & WATSON INSURANCE CO. Surviving are the widow, KITTIE, who will accompany the body to Grand Rapids, arriving here Tuesday evening; two sons, SETH W. of Philadelphia and EDWARD F. of Grand Rapids, and four grandsons. A third son died two years ago from wounds suffered in World War I. The body will be at the Rauschenberger mortuary, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial well be in Oak Hill cemetery. So, in the genealogy on the Snow family, VICTORY SNOW, b. c.1851, of Henry & Lorintha, appears to be HENRY V. SNOW of Cutlerville, MI. Given that Henry Holland Snow was born in Nova Scotia, it's curious that Henry, Jr. stated his father was born in Maine in the 1880, 1900 & 1910 U.S. Censuses. However, given the fact his father died when he was so young, Henry Jr.'s recollection may not have extended beyond tales of his father's young manhood years in Maine, or so it might seem. I could not find Henry Snow, Jr., earlier than the 1870 Census. Do you have any idea what Henry Holland Snow's birth and death years are? In the 1860 U.S. Census for Brecksville, Cuyahoga Co., OH, there is a Holland Snow who was b. abt. 1826 in Atkinson, ME. There are quite a clan of Snows there but the record is almost undecipherable. I, too, could not find Lorintha in the 1860 Census. Perhaps she was using a middle name...or that particular Snow family got missed altogether. I tried slicing and dicing my search criteria in all different sorts of manners, hoping to coax out their family, but to no avail.
