I'm going to have to make this quick as are experiencing a storm with power outages. I went to Woodlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids while there last spring for the GR Machine Knitters Seminars and the lady there was very helpful but it hadn't opened when the following obit was written. Oddly enough the family I'm looking for was in the Sparta area of Elgin Co. Ontario where we live now in 1860's then disappeared but this obit was found in the family and it's not in Sparta Ontario. We know some of the family moved to Michigan and ended up in Traverse City by 1900 but what happened in the meantime we don't know. Is there any cemetery transcriptions for Sparta, Michigan cemeteries? ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED !!!!!' ---------- AN OLD CITIZEN CALLED HENCE - MR. GEORGE HORSMAN An old and respected citizen passed away last Sunday Sept. 28, 1902, after a brief illness. Though he had been in feeble health for a long time, having heart trouble especially, his final illness continued only about a week and in the form of pneumonia. Mr. Horsman was about 72 years of age and resided in Sparta since along in '67 or '68, being engaged in glove manufacturing and repairing almost up to the time when failing health compelled him to give up active work. His sterling qualities of mind and heart ever retained for him a high place in the esteem and respect of this community. His wife, Mrs. Jennie June Horsman and one daughter survive him. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the residence, North Water Street, Rev. E. W. Huelster, assisted by Rev. David Ferguson, officiating. The burial services were conducted under direction of Spartan Lodge I.O.O.F., of which deceased was a member. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Only info to date is 1900 census showing Cary J. Carveth living in Grand Rapids, with wife Delliose(sp?), and two daughters: Eva May b.Jul 1893 and Mamie E. b. Apr 1890. Census says Cary's parents born in England, Delliose's father:PA and mother:NY. His occupation is listed as bookkeeper.I don't know where Cary was born. I've found a George Carveth (b.1828-32 In England), married Julia Taylor (b. abt 1835 in PA?) on 13 Mar 1851 in Ionia County, MI -- but have no proof that this is Cary's parents.
