Thanks Ralph. I wasn't aware of the website. I went there but as the records only go back to 1903 which is about the year my ggrandparents left Cannonsburg and my ggrandfather was a teacher, not a student, I had no luck. I'll keep checking the site, tho, to see what records they add. This is a late reply to message #1 of Digest #58 re Dutch Germans (see below). My husband's ancestors were from the Westphalia region of Germany (Northwestern). They spoke Dutch. "Hello, I have a number of Dutch ancestors, and some that "spoke Dutch" as I'm told, but they were from "Osterwald, Hannover, Germany" and "Binnenborg, Germany". Were there Dutch Germans, or "ethnic Dutch" in Germany? My family settled in the Grand Rapids area, and in Missaukee county, so I thought I'd ask here and see if anybody was familiar with this. Thanks!" _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
What years do the school attendance records cover? My ggrandfather, Burtis Mortimer Hoag,is listed in the 1870 MI census as a school teacher and on his death certificate (1943 Los Angeles Co, CA) as a retired public school teacher. The family moved to Whittier CA from Cannonsburg c. 1904. My father, who recalled his grandfather helping him with math homework, thought Burtis was a math teacher. Are there any extant records where I might be able to find out more about my ggrandfather's occupation? I hope someone can answer this question. When a census says "at school", obviously the child is at school, but my question is: Has any one ever found a census that lists the school and the children who are attending? Thank you, Linda Currie

Sorry -- my signature got mixed up with the last URL. Click below; AOL users may have to cut and paste. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1522706072 Also, I recently uploaded a bunch more images to the Kent County image galleries, and reorganized them so individual albums are a bit more rational. Check it out at: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/mikentgenweb/lst?&.dir=/&.src=ph&.view=l Also, I'm not from Grand Rapids so I'm pretty clueless. Can anyone tell me what street we're looking down in the last two postcards in the Street Views album. It's the one that Herpolsheimer's is on.
