Ron, Grand Rapids has ALWAYS been in Kent County (since the 1830's). Ontonagon county is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan- nowhere near Kent County. I do believe I saw them on the same census microfilm roll for 1840(?) or 1850(?), but that occurred only because the national archives chose to put them together. I hope this helps you. Surnames: Hansen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kFB.2ACE/4246 Message Board Post: I have an old photograph showing the interior of a saloon. On the wall is a calendar for January 1915 from Byron Center Bank. Advertisements behind the bar include Montreal Malt Rye, Budweiser, Kumbak Cigar Co., Velvet Tobacco, Iroquois Cigars. In front of the bar are two spitoons. One man is behind the bar and two costumers are out front. One of the customers may be a trolley conductor, at least that's my impression. He appears to be missing his middle finger on his right hand. The other customer has a large mustache and is dressed in a very bulky fur coat. I bought this photo, along with a few others, from an antique store in Grandville. The only name on some of the photos was Nick Hansen of Byron Center. Can anyone identify the saloon? I will post a .jpg of the photograph if there is any interest. Also, another photo shows the exterior of the County Line Hotel, the proprietor's name is John Thom... something. I'm not sure if this photo is from the area but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Thanks, Chris Penning chrispenning@mindspring.com
Hello Everyone: What county was Grand Rapids, Michigan, located in on April 06, 1910? Rootsweb.com Town/County website http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi has Grand Rapids listed in both in Ontonagon and Kent Counties. I figured that Grand Rapids must have been in one of these counties at one time and that the county was divided and the other county was formed. I will be looking forward to hearing from anyone. I wish to thank you in advance. In Christ, Ron Powell
You are probably thinking of Oakhill. ----- Original Message ----- From: "thomas roderick" <roderick@acadia.net> To: <MIKENT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 23, 2002 4:07 PM Subject: [MIKENT] Cemetery Name, Please > Can someone refresh my memory on the name of the very large cemetery > in Grand Rapids (south) that Hall street intersects and goes through? > Many thanks > T. Can someone refresh my memory on the name of the very large cemetery in Grand Rapids (south) that Hall street intersects and goes through? Many thanks T. H. Roderick --
There is a transcription of Rosedale cemetery's older records online. Go to the Kent Co. genweb site: www.rootsweb.com/~mikent Scroll down to Resources, click on cemeteries. Scroll down to Border Listings by County, click on Ottawa. Scroll down to Rosedale Memorial Cemetery, then click on online transcription by Susan M. Gates Davis. I just glanced at the entries, but I saw some from the late 1800's.
Here's the link to the transcription at Rosedale Cemetery http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikent/cemeteries/bordercem/rosedale.html ----- Original Message ----- From: <Scjeja@aol.com> To: <MIKENT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 23, 2002 7:43 AM Subject: Re: [MIKENT] Rosedale Cemetery Question > Rosedale Cemetery is older than the 1950s. Rosedale Cemetery is older than the 1950s. Part of the cemetery as it is today was my grandfather's farm and he sold it to the Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery Association in 1927.
