    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kFB.2ACE/4402.1 Message Board Post: On the website of the Zeeland Registry, I found a Jacob Bierens (there are lots of them) and a Pieter Bierens who are listed as "Emigrants" departing from Oud Vossemeer (which is the name of a city or town in the Netherlands) in the year of 1867. Since both of those names appear, these might be the names you are looking for. It would be helpful of you knew Johanna's (or Jane) maiden name. If you want to access that website, enter this exactly: http://database.zeeuwsarchief.nl/ . Choose the English language and it will take you directly to the search page where you can enter surnames. A record of their marriage might be available. Hope this helps.

    1. Re: [MIKENT] Re: Old obituaries
    2. I believe there are some newspapers from that era, but I don't think they are indexed. Someone would have to read through the papers to find the obituary. Knowing the death date does help. It leaves fewer papers to read.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kFB.2ACE/4402 Message Board Post: Hello, Wondering if anybody might be able to find any info on a Jacob Bierens and his wife Johana (possibly listed as “Jane”). They came to Grand Rapids from the Netherlands sometime in the early 1860’s (as best I’ve been able to tell). They appear in Grand Rapids in the 1870 Michigan Census. Jacob’s father Pieter (or Peter) lived with them as well. Trying to discover when they came to the U.S. exactly, and possibly what ship they came over on….or ANY other info on them. Thanks! Scott

    2. Hi, This is for W. Tjepkema, I went to gradeschool and high school with Leona Tjepkema. The family lived in Zeeland, Mich. U.S.A. Her father was a barber. I don't remember his name. Zeeland is in Ottawa County in Michigan. As far as I know Leona has never shown up at any of our high school reunions but I did hear that she was a missionary serving in China or Japan. Hope this might give you another clue. F. Mellema

Surnames: EDWARDS,GOULD,NUMMER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kFB.2ACE/4400 Message Board Post: My Great Uncle Eliphalet Parke Edwards graduated from Grand Rapids Medical College in 1900 and in 1901 was a physician in Grand Rapids in 1901. He was born in Canada in 1873-- parents were E.T. Edwards and Sarah Wilkinson. He married my grandfather's sister Nettie G. Gould in 1896 in Carlinsville,Macoupin County,IL. They adopted their daughter Margaret in 1900/1901. I have several questions about this couple. First of all are there any records or photos available for Grand Rapids Medical School? Does this school still exist? There is another Eliphalet Edwards who is a doctor in Grand Rapids and his family came from Canada also. Does any one know if he is related to my Eliphalet Edwards? Does anyone have access to the 1900 census that might be willing to do a lookup for both Eliphalet Edwards for me? And last question -- where would one look for adoption records in Kent County? Thanks for all your help.

I will just have to see if there is a death certificate for this George that gives his date of birth or his parents or next of kin. Does anyone know if Kent County will check records for you to see if it is the right person? Or do you have to just take a chance and order a death certificate? Is there a death index for Kent County? Thanks for your suggestions.

You can access them probably here at RootsWeb or at ancestry.com. If George Gould appears in the index, they will give you his Social Security Number and you can write a letter to the Social Security Administration asking for a copy of his application. These application usually will give you the name of his parents.

Surnames: WILSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kFB.2ACE/4399 Message Board Post: Hello all, While antiquing in Eureka, Ca, my husband found a postcard of the M. Wilson Residence in Caledonia, MI. On the back is written that Mr. M. Wilson, Mrs. M. Wilson, Alice Wilson, Forrest Wilson, and Hugh Grabiel are present on this New Year's Day. It's too bad that they didn't write what year it was. The postcard is from 1908-1920. The publisher is Will P. Canaan in Grand Rapids, MI. If anyone is a descendant of this family please let me know. I would like to see this returned to it's family. I will also be able to send a scan if anyone would like to see it. Thanks. Jennifer Logan
