    3. If you hear from no one regarding the death certificate, it could be place in the Manuscript File of Western Michigan Genealogical Society at the Grand Rapids Public Library where it would be available to anyone to see. You could just mail it to WMGS - Manuscripts, % G. R. Public Library, 111 Library Street, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 03, 2006 1:00 AM Subject: [BULK] MIKENT Digest, Vol 1, Issue 59 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. All I know is that Francis Egene Hicks (my ggf) was partnered with Chester Walch (who I think was his uncle via marriage) between 1890-1900 There was a listing at Ancestry.com from the 1889/90 directory, but no information. I've tried contacting Sparta Twp historical society, but they haven't gotten back to me. How do I find Business information like this?? I've never research businesses, most of my ancestors were farmers.

    1. [MIKENT] Vander Ploeg obituaries
    2. Joanie Rosema
    3. Hello All, I've noticed in the past that there have been some wonderful unsung heroes who look up obituaries in the old GR Press and GR Herald when they go downtown for the day. Would anyone be willing to help me with someone I am trying to help in the Netherlands? They need the obituaries for: Hyltje Vander Ploeg, appeared in the paper on 4 November 1940 Mae Vander Ploeg, ditto on 17 February 1917 or 7 July 1920 (there were 2 "Maes" in the index, not sure which is the right one) Simon Vander Ploeg, 6 January 1959 Egbert Vander Ploeg, 25 Oktober 1967 Sam Vander Ploeg, 21 September 1972 This is a lot of looking up so if time is of the essence, the most important one would be Hyltje Vander Ploeg. Sometimes Vander Ploeg is spelled with a small "v". Hyltje might be spelled "Hijltje". Thank you and there is no real hurry. Almy and see where he comes from -not connected to the Almy line I have been working on. Hard to tell with the name game getting in the way; the Thomas I do know about and who was also in Kent Co. was born about the same time as Alphonzo but in a different location in NY. The Thomas I know was there in Kent Co. 1870 and who d. there about 1885 lived in Cortland, Nelson Twp. He had a wife Almira and a son Alonzo - unfortunately, the surname has often been shown on census as "Alma" which throws one off if trying to do a search. (Especially on Ancestry which is so frequently incorrect in transcriptions, anyway.) I am so glad you mentioned Alphonzo in your last message - I was able to find him in a History of Kent county, now accessible through the Kent co. Genweb site. Alphonzo is a son of Peleg Almy and they are not my ancestors and not connected to the Almy/Davenport mystery back in Seneca/Tompkins Counties, NY. Oh well, the mystery c! ontinues - thank you so much for your time and help. Will hang onto the information you found because it might come in handy for the next person who contacts me.

Hopefully we now have it covered so I can peck away at this Almy/Davenport mystery. I have it all right here to begin and maybe I can come up with a few new ideas as I have time to really digest what you sent.
