Nona O'Connor, 86, who taught Kindergarten and trained many teacher's aides at Ft. Myer Elementary School and Barrett Elementary School in Arlington, VA died at the Virginia Hospital Center on January 4, 2007 after surgery. Nona was born in Kalamazoo in 1920. In 1924, she and her family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she graduated from South High in 1938, attended Grand Rapids Community College and met her future husband, Don. She graduated from Eastern Michigan in 1942. She has maintained friendships with her high school classmates, their siblings and people all over the country. Nona married Don O'Connor in 1943 and was the quintessential Army wife and mother who followed Don all over the globe setting up home and raising a family in over 20 different location in such far distant places as Japan and Alaska. Don was transferred to the Pentagon in 1964 and she has been in Arlington ever since. She has maintained a second! home with her sister at Gull Lake, near Kalamazoo, MI, where she spent all of her summers; traveled to Florida with her sister every winter and traveled the world with friend, Mary Louise McDaid. Always an active member of the Retired Teachers Association and local civic associations such as Lyon Park and Lee Senior Center, Nona will be missed by her many students, fellow teachers, and close friends. She has two sons, Craig and Michael, also of Grand Rapids and both Army Veterans; seven grandchildren, Wendy, Heather, Cassie, Shannon, Jackie, Kent and Jesse; and 11 great-grandchildren. Nona is also survived by her sister, Carlene Vander Klipp of Orchard Lake, Michigan; and her cousin, Alice Hunt of Wall Lake, Michigan; There will be a viewing at Arlington Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM, 11 January 2007 and a service at the Old Post Chapel on Ft Myer at 3 PM, 25 January 2007; followed by her burial at Arlington National Cemetery with her beloved husband, Don, who passed away in! 1985. The records only have the year of death, but I wondered if anyone has any further information on this family. The mother, Keziah Davenport Stonehouse, died in 1881; the father, John Stonehouse, died in 1883. I am interested in obtaining obituaries. [email protected] Also, I noticed that three of their children died in 1880 (Belle, Clyde, and Mayme) and John, Jr. in 1882. Was there an epidemic? I'm also looking for the burial place of Keziah's parents, Marian/Maria (nee unknown) (died 8 Oct 1873) and John Davenport (died 1860). I also couldn't find the burial place of Keziah's brother Jonathan, who died after 1880, and his wives, Elizabeth, who died before 1860, and Cordelia Dutton Davenport, who died November 1882. Nor, her sister Hannah Elizabeth who married Oscar Toms (Hannah and Oscar were cousins). I believe Hannah died before 1870, bu! t I don't know when Oscar died. Her youngest sister, Mary Jane Davenport (died 1914) and husband William Brown (died 1915) (Mary Jane and William were cousins) are buried in the Englishville Cemetery, Alpine Township. Other siblings are buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Alpine Township. Any help on this Davenport family of Kent County would be appreciated.

I have found several bios of him on internet but none tell me who his parents were. He supposedly came from Rhode Island but which branch of the Almy family does he spring from? I have a John Almy on my database with very little information except his parents (land deeds); some time ago someone suggested that this Judge John Almy of Michigan is the same one as "mine" but I have my doubts. I think from Census information they came to Michigan from Waterloo County, Ontario in 1875. They are on the 1880 Census of Mancelona, Antrim, Michigan and on the 1900 and 1910 Census of Boston, Ionia Michigan. I suspect Mary Ann died about 1915 but not sure if it was in Michigan or Indiana. On the 1910 Census of Boston, Ionia, Michigan are: Keller, Menno, Head, Male, White, aged 59, Married Once, 35 years married, born Canada, Father born Pennsylvania, Mother born Pennsylvania, came to the States in 1875, speaks English, Farmer Keller, Mary Ann, Wife, Female, White, aged 61, Married Once, 35 years married, 4 children, 4 children living, born Canada, Father born Germany, Mother born Germany, came to the States in 1875, speaks English, no Occupation Keller, Clara, Daughter, Female, White, aged 28, Single, born Michigan, Father born Canada, Mother born Canada, speaks English, no Occupation I see by the 1930 Census Menno is still alive and living with his daughter. I have found evidence of a death of a "Menna Keller" reported in the Grand Rapids Herald, Friday December 29, 1933. I'm wondering if this could be Menno Keller, as his family originally came to Kent County and many of them remained there, so his death may have been reported there. His parents were Christian Keller (1811 - 1887) and Catharine Miller (1817 - 1892) and he had brothers John, Abraham, Christian, Benjamin, Aaron and possibly a Noah, all in Kent County at one time or antoher.
