She attended Boston University, graduated Phi Beta Kappa, taught high school for two years in Ashland, MA, and went to the University of Wisconsin for a master's degree. She taught English at West High School in Madison and during one summer worked with the American Friends Service Committee in Mexico. In 1954, the Hilberry's moved to Greencastle, IN, where Marion and Conrad both taught English at DePauw University. A third daughter, Jane, was born there. In 1962, they moved to Kalamazoo, where their fourth daughter, Ann, was born. For more than 40! years, Marion taught English to foreign students at Nazareth College, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, and often tutored individuals, sometimes forming lasting friendships. For a number of years she taught a literature course, mostly novels, at Friendship Village. The Hilberrys both taught for a term at a university in Quito, Equador. On leave, they spent four months on the island of Crete and many months in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Marion is survived by Conrad, Marilyn, Jane and Ann; by three grandsons, Ben, Jim and Adam and by her sister, Helen Kinsman and her family. The memorial service will be held at Stetson Chapel, Kalamazoo College on May 17, 2008 at 11:00 AM.
