Joe was born in Kalamazoo, Feb. 6, 1933, the son of Jacob & Trina (Venhuis) Emaar. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School where he excelled in sports and received a degree in Physical Education at WMU where he also excelled in baseball. He was in ROTC at WMU and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Era. His baseball career continued throughout his military service and in the years following with the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League and various local leagues. He was also an avid golfer, racquetball and paddleball player, bowler and fisherman. He was a former member of First Christian Reformed Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of a male quartet. He and his twin brother, Butch, sang gospel music together for many years at various local churches, nursing homes and funerals and recorded a CD of their favorite gospel songs. Joe was employed as a real estate salesman for 40 yea! rs. On Oct. 3, 1963, he married Shirley J. Campbell, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kim (Steve) Finup and Amie Tiller, both of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Tyler Finup, Kaylee and Logan Tiller; his twin brother, Duane "Butch" (April) Emaar of Kalamazoo; two sisters, Dena Emaar of Kalamazoo and Elizabeth "Betty" Smith of Parchment; sister-in-law, Sally Emaar of Paw Paw; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Donald J., Jack J. and Dowlen A. Emaar. Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday evening where the family will be present from 6 to 8 PM. Private interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with military honors. Memorial services will be held 12 o'clock noon Friday at Faith Chapel Ministries, 7735 W. "G" Avenue, with Rev. Thomas Koning, officiating.
