She was a long time resident of Richland and Marshall, Michigan and moved to Millington, Tennessee in 1990. In 1996, she moved to California to be closer to her daughter. Laura was born February 13, 1918 in Anamoose, North Dakota, to Gustav and Amelia Ebbert, formerly of Kalamazoo. Laura received her teaching degree in 1940 from Western Michigan University where she was active in the Internal Relations Club, Later Elementary club and YWCA. During her 35-year teaching career, she taught in the Upper Peninsula, Mount Morris, Allegan and the Kalamazoo school systems. She last taught 3rd and 5th grades at Northglade Elementary in the 1960s and 1970s. Laura married John Lynn Brownell of Watersmeet Michigan in 1952 and was a devoted wife to him until his battle with colon cancer ended in 1979. She is survived by her daughters, Julie Brownell Walters of San Francisco, California, Vala! rie Chapmen of Millington, Tennessee; granddaughters, Amy Melissa Walters, Sara Ellen Chapman and Jennifer Lorelei Chapman; nephew and niece, Joanne Schultz of Lake Ann and Dick Proud of Buchanan, Michigan. Laura enjoyed traveling, antiquing and owned Candleglo Antiques in Richland. A celebration of life event for family and friends is being planned for the summer of 2008.
